Our angel came into this world after fighting for over a week. I was hospitalized the week before because of bleeding, but was released and put on strict bed rest since there was nothing that the doctors could find wrong. They thought that it was placenta previa. They were wrong. My placenta was detaching. I went to the hospital again almost a week after I was released with pressure. Benjamin was kicking me all day and I knew that that was the last time that I was going to feel him kick. I was admitted into the maternaty ward around 11 PM, after being in the ER for 2 hours. At 8 am I was told that I was going to be transfered to a different hospital that specializes in Neonatal care. Shortly after I arrived I got another ultrasound that revealed that I lost all of my water at some point. With all of the bleeding that I was having, I couldn't tell. They also saw a large blood clot that was caused by the bleeding. They rushed me back up to my room and I was told that I would be giving birth really soon. I wasn't induced. Benjamin was ready to come out on his own. I really only had to push a few times. When he was born, the nurse wraped him in a blanket that volunteers had made and donated to the hospital for people like me. When the nurse handed him to me, he yawned and stretched a bit. It made me smile and cry at the same time. It was the first time I saw him breathe and move and it also was the last. He weighed 8.6 ounces and was 10 inches long. I am very thankful to the staff and volunteers at the hostpital. They made a hard and difficult situation so much less hard and less difficult. They contacted my husband, who was in Germany, for us and they also took the pictures of him. They put together a little scrapbook with the pictures included along with the hand and foot prints, his measurements, and the hospital birth certificate. I was later told that the whole situation was caused by a few factors. My doctor believes that the cause was 1) my cervix wasn't strong enough, 2) there might have been problems with my uterus, and 3) there was an infection that I might still have. |
