The Golden Story

When Mom and Dad met about 18 years ago, Dad had a doberman he loved very much named Kaya. It was just those two and they were very close. Things changed a bit when Mom came into the picture. She and Kaya fell in love also, and Dad decided to bring home a surprise for Mom just before they got married. C.P. was the prettiest kitten she had ever seen! He fit right in and he and Kaya became inseperable too. They were quite a sight with C.P. being totally white and so tiny and Kaya being so big and black, but always so gentle. C. P. got into everything of course, including the wedding pictures, chased Mom's gown all around, little stinker!! About six months after they got married, being the animal lovers that they are, they decided to get another dog. That's how the first Golden, Trixie, came into the picture.

Trixie

That's when things started to go wrong. Mom was so proud of Trixie, she was so adorable, she was showing her off to everyone. Well, a week after she got her Mom went to the small local store with a friend and ran in for some milk, two minutes at most. When she came out, Trixie was gone from inside her car. Panic set in and she looked everywhere and asked anyone who was around, but nobody claimed to have seen a thing. Now, we live on a small island and things are pretty safe here, not like big cities. But Trixie was gone, never to be seen again. Mom was inconsolable, she cried so much, she made herself sick and everyone was miserable. Dad decided that he had to do something and went back to the breeder. They still had a female they had not yet sold, so Dad brought Tammy home.

Kaya  and Tammy

Things were better for a while after that. Tammy became a beautiful full grown dog who loved to play ball, swim, play with C.P. and Kaya and she and Mom became real close. Life was good once again. The bad stuff gave us a break for about  three years, then tragedy struck again. Just after Christmas C.P. became ill and went outdoors, Mom and Dad thought he had a fur ball, nothing seemed too serious. But C.P. didn't come home. Now there are no cars or roads nearby for him to have been hit, so they didn't really understand what was wrong. After a few days though, they knew that something wasn't right, C.P. had never been away that long, so they started looking for him. Dad called Mom at work the day after New Year's and when she heard he was crying, she knew the worst had happened. It was hard for her to work that day, and when she came home Dad told her that he had found him under a neighbor's boat dead. He was only four years old. The vet told us that he had probably gotten into poison in one of the summer camps. So we had our first funeral and laid him to rest down by the beach. Kaya and Tammy were sad and upset, they missed their buddy too.
