A good day begins when your coffee pot doesn't splew out brown 'stuff' and coffee grounds on the kitchen counter. We ALL know that we did nothing out of the ordinary and that our coffee maker is just mad at us for some reason!

      A good day turns bad when one goes to a dark basement and attempts to turn on a light. Oh, oh, that string attached to the chain that you pulled gave up the ghost and you are left in dimness.

      Don't we just love to turn on a lamp and hear a loud pop? No light! And not a lightbulb in the house for a replacement! Not a good day. (You've already cannabilized all your other lamps so you're up a dark creek without a paddle!)

      Federal holidays can be a pain in the neck. Does the garbage man work on those Mondays? Does the recycling man collect? Who's to know? Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't! Not a good day when you have to hold things over for a week or two (especially in warm weather.)

      Is it a good day when you complain to someone that he/she is NOT listening to you and he/she didn't hear you? Some days you might as well use your cell phone to call your land line phone and talk to yourself!

      Start those days over when you arrive home in bad weather with a load of groceries in the trunk of the car and your automatic garage door will only move up on one corner before it quickly grinds to a stop.

      Count yourself lucky when the general power outage lasts only a few hours in 100 degree F weather! You couldn’t open the freezer or refrigerator because you had no idea how long you would be without electricity.

      All in all, though, most days are good days. We didn't wake up dead and we can handle what minor inconveniences may come our way. After all, we're mature, competent people who know how to use a telephone to call for help or we invent a solution to our problems!

      Have a good day! (Oh, I do wish the pharmacist wouldn't say that as she hands me an empty gallon jug and some stuff to mix and fill with water. Most of us know going in that TODAY will NOT be a good day.)
