| 6.6- Happiness Evolution This is (IMHO), the most annoying part of Crystal. But if you want to complete the Pokedex or want to round out your team with an Espeon, you'll have to become proficient at it. The 5 Pokemon that can only be acquired by happy-evolving are Togetic, Crobat, Espeon, Umbreon, and Blissey. Also, if you hatched a Cleffa, Pichu, or Igglybuff, you'll have to make them happy before they evolve to their next form. But what can you do? -Don't use items sold in the Goldenrod Pharmacy on the Pokemon. These are bitter items, and your Pokemon hates them. -If you're looking for a Crobat or Blissey, try catching the previous form (Golbat and Chansey) with Friend Balls. That way, their happiness is already high when you catch them. (It's good to have an open slot, so you can administer the next steps with less difficulty.) -Walk around with them. After walking around for a while, the happiness will increase a little bit. -Take them through events such as beating the Elite 4. Pokemon love recognition, and putting them in a Hall of Fame will make them especially happy. -Use items like HP Up and Protein on the Pokemon. (Battle Tower, anyone?) -Get into fights with them, and win. If the Pokemon gets a status condition, heal it ASAP. And don't let them faint, as Pokemon detest fainting. -Take the Pokemon for haircuts and grooming. The haircuts are in Goldenrod's Underground every day but Monday. Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday are especially good days to go, as the cutter can up happiness by as much as 10 points! Daisy will groom a Pokemon at Blue (Gary)'s house every day between 3 and 4 pm. Keep this up, and your Pokemon will aboslutely love you. To check, there's a Happiness checker in Goldenrod City, or you can see the Poke Seer in Cianwood. If the Pokemon that loves you can evolve, get them a level up to trigger the evolution. |
