| 6.5- Breeding Yep, Breeding. It's an easy way to fill the Pokedex, and you can also create amazing movesets with it. The basis of breeding is simple: Leave two compatible Pokemon of opposite genders with the Daycare Couple on Route 34. Do some things in the game, and eventually, you'll get an egg. Then, you hatch the egg the same way you hatch the Odd Egg and the Togepi egg: keep walking. Q: How can I tell if they will mate? A: Go into the Daycare pen and talk to the Pokemon. For example, I'm trying to breed a female Blastoise with a Male Corsola. When I talk to Blastoise, it should say: "It shows intrest in CORSOLA!" or "It's friendly with CORSOLA!" or "It appears to care for CORSOLA!" If the Blastoise is the result of breeding with the same Corsola before, then you'll see "It's brimming with energy.". And, if the Pokemon aren't compatible (for example, trying to mate Corsola with a female Larvitar), you'll see "It has no interest in CORSOLA.". Q: How will I know if the Pokemon are compatible? A: All Pokemon are sorted into Egg Groups. If you breed within one of the Egg Groups, then you'll get an egg. If not, then there will be no interest. Q: What Pokemon will the egg hatch into? A: The egg will hatch into the lowest evolution of the mother. For example, if you breed a female Charizard and a male Dragonite, you'll get a Charmander. Q: What level will the Pokemon be? A: All eggs hatch at L5. Six Pokemon can only be acquired by breeding, and here they are: Pichu (breed a Pikachu/Raichu) Magby (breed Magmar) Cleffa (breed Clefairy/Clefable) Electabuzz (breed Electabuzz) Igglybuff (breed Jigglypuff/Wigglytuff) Smoochum (breed Jynx) Also, you'll need to breed if you want extra Eevee, and if you don't have Time Capsule access and want all three Hitmon Pokemon (Lee/Chan/Top). The main reason that most players breed, however, is for the Egg moves. These are moves that Pokemon can only learn this way, such as Rock Slide on Cubone. There are even some Egg moves that are Crystal-exclusive (using Cubone as an example again, it can learn Swords Dance by breeding in Crystal.) To show the other ways that Pokemon can learn moves, let's set up a mock breeding. The male Pokemon is a Houndoom, with Flamethrower, Crunch, Sunny Day, and Sludge Bomb. The female is an Arcanine. The egg is a L5 Growlithe, who normally starts with Bite and Roar. However, there's some things we have to consider first. 1) The Houndoom has Crunch, which is one of Arcanine's Egg Moves (listed in the Pokedex). Bite/Roar/Crunch 2) Houndoom also has Flamethrower, which Growlithe learns naturally at L50. Since moves can be passed if the dad knows them and the child learns it naturally, Flamethrower is added. Bite/Roar/Crunch/Flamethrower 3) Houndoom's third move is Sunny Day, which Growlithe can learn as a TM. TM moves can also be passed down if both father and son/daughter can learn it, so add Sunny Day. Bite/Roar/Crunch/Flamethrower/Sunny Day. HOLD IT!! Movesets are only allowed to be four moves, so something's got to go. The rule is that the oldest move is dropped. In this case, Bite is the first move on Growlithe's list, so it's bumped in favor of Sunny Day. Roar/Crunch/Flamethrower/Sunny Day. That will be the moveset when Growlithe hatches.
