Lower Columbia Basin Cluster
“Hey, Great, Lord…
What’s a Cluster?”
The quote above paraphrased from Bill Cosby.
A Cluster is a subdivision of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The structure of the ELCA proceeds from congregation, to cluster, to synod, to region, to ELCA national. Our cluster (also known as Cluster G) is part of the East Washington / Idaho Synod, located in region 1.
The function of clusters varies
from synod to synod. This was done
intentionally, when the ELCA was formed in 1987, to allow maximum flexibility
for groups of congregations in a synod to act together.
The Lower Columbia Basin Cluster is one of several clusters in
our synod.
It covers much of the geographic area of the Lower Columbia Basin of
Washington State. Our cluster ranges
geographically from Connell to the north, the Tri-Cities of Pasco, Richland and
Kennewick in the center, and then east to Walla Walla.
Our cluster meets regularly to discuss items of
mutual interest and for
inter-congregational ministry support.
We also one another in ministry projects and joint
worship activities. The Lower Columbia
Basin Cluster also supports other ministries in our area with financial and
prayer support. All persons are welcome
to our cluster meetings, and all ordained, commissioned, or rostered clergy are welcome to our
Tuesday text study and meeting.
