The deck is 12ft x 16ft. I built a frame for the pond out of 4 x 4s that are spiked every two feet. I dug the hole about a foot deep, all together making the pond 3ft deep. The ledge on the left will be filled with gravel and planted.
The bottom of the pond was covered in 1 inch thick carpet underlay, then two layers of scrap carpet. All the sides where backfilled with sand to give a gradual slope.
Here you can see the plant shelves on either side, of what is to be the waterfall.
Starting to actually resemble something. It's great when you see it starting to take shape.
In goes the liner!. I purchased the liner, pump, etc. from a friend who is in the pond business. He gave me everything at cost!.
Time for a coffee break!. We used this time to let the sun soften up the liner. That way it would be more manageable.
Linda kept saying "What a mess, are we ever going to get finished".
The gravel/plant  beds are starting to take shape. I used a soft bristled broom to iron out the wrinkles in the liner.
Building the waterfall was quite a chore!. Linda wanted it accross the corner and it took me a while to figure out how to do it. With the pond being raised, I also had to raise the waterfall. I did this by building a platform, then I built a staircase out of 2x6 and 2x8s. I then laid the liner up the staircase and started laying the rocks starting from the bottom up. The first step is below the water level.
In order to get the water to flow where I wanted it. I laid chicken wire down four different areas, then poured cement, shaping it as I went along.
Here we are up and running!. I still had some finishing touches left to do.
This is how it looked from the deck
