Norma Lee Short NeSmith ---- Since Then:

After graduation I worked for Pompano Farmer’s Bank and then 1st National Bank on Atlantic Ave. I married Rufus NeSmith in Dec 1956. We bought a home in Pompano. In Aug 1957 we moved to Miami so Rufus could attend Air Conditioning & Refrigeration classes at Lindsley Hopkins Tec School. He graduated two years later. We had our son at that time. We moved back to Pompano. Rufus worked for two air conditioning companies. In 1962 we had another son. In 1965 we had a daughter and we started our own air conditioning and refrigeration company. I worked in the office and did the book work. Our business grew quickly, lots of work, not much traveling. In 1979 we went with a group from our church to Israel. It was a great trip. In September 1980 our oldest son was married then we took a trip to England, Scotland and Wales. We traveled with another couple. It was a fun trip.

Back to work. In 1985 Rufus had cancer, he decided to sell our business and all our property in Pompano so we could travel. In 1988 we moved to the home we have today in Inglis, Florida. We started traveling all over the US. We went up the east coast to Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia. I was from Delaware so we visited there and in Georgia where Rufus was from. In 1992 we visited Alaska for 10 weeks. We travel in a 5th wheel, another couple traveled along with us in their RV. It was a very nice trip. Shortly after we arrived home we planned out daughter’s wedding. It was a beautiful wedding. In 1995 Rufus had cancer again. When all was OK we traveled some more to all the National Parks including Grand Canyon, Brice Canyon, Yellowstone and many others.

In 2002 we were away 4 ½ months. We traveled with 5 other couples in motor homes. That’s the best way to travel. We do not travel far in a day, we like to see the sights and enjoy ourselves. We left Inglis on the 3rd of June and arrived in Port Angelis, Washington on the 3rd of July. We stayed there a week and left to take a ferry to Canada where we joined a caravan to travel thru Alaska. That was the longest trip we’ve ever taken. Rufus has been in every state in the United States. He was in the Navy and went to Hawaii. He was in Japan and Korea during the Korean War while I was still in high school. We’ve had a very good life.

We’re starting a new venture now. In the winter months we volunteer for Camper’s On Missions. We travel where they need us and help build church buildings. We were at the top of Florida all last winter. We meet a lot of very nice people this way. We live in our motor home. Rufus loves to keep busy, so we do.

We have 3 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. We have one son who still lives in Pompano Beach and one son who lives in Frostproof, Alaska. Our daughter lives 15 miles from us in Crystal River. One grandson, his wife and little boy also lives in Crystal River. One grandson lives in Birchtree, MO. Our granddaughter, husband and son live in Maine so like everyone else we’re spread around the country. We have lots of family get-together’s. That is very important to us. The Lord has blessed us over the years and we thank Him every day for His blessings.
