Welcome Back

All of the officers would like to welcome all the incoming freshmen and their parents into the band and all of the upper classmen back.  We hope everyone has had a relaxing summer and is now ready to begin the 2003-2004 school year.  We are looking forward to having an outstanding year. The officers for this year are:

            President                      -           Denise Freeman                        736-7158

Vice President              -           Kirsten Barnes                          736-5828

            Secretary                      -           Diane Fowler                            698-0909

            Treasurer                      -           Sandy Hernandez                     736-3332

Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

To make this an outstanding year, it will take everyone’s help.  The band boosters need everyone to participate in the various activities, committees and fundraisers planned.  We need all the parent involvement we can get.  There is a lot to do and if everyone pitches in, this year will run so much smoother.  We still have a lot of committee spots still open.  Please look at the committee list and see how you can help us.  If you have not received a committee list, please see Mr. Greco or one of the officers.  The band will be doing the following fundraisers: discount cards, lollipops, wrapping paper and candy, scratch cards, candle sales and cookie dough.  The boosters do not expect you to participate in every fundraiser.  We suggest you pick 2 or 3 that you feel you will be able to sell to friends and family.  The more you sell the more you will earn towards decreasing your band expenses and trip cost at the end of the year.

The boosters have just recently purchased new drum major uniforms, color guard uniforms, and plumes for the marching band.  We hope these additions will improve the band’s appearance.  We have also bought new bags to store the uniforms in.  The school has been very gracious to purchase new stands for some of our concert drum instruments.  They have also purchased carts to hold our music stands on.  We thank them very much for their support.

In the coming months we will be deciding on our annual band trip.  In the past we have been to Williamsburg, VA, Myrtle Beach, NC. and Gatlinburg, TN.  All the students who went to TN last year had a great time.  We came home last year with several superior ratings.  The students represented POLYTECH extremely well in the competition.

We would appreciate it if all students make sure they have paid all their fees by September 5th.  The band students have been given a fee voucher to fill out and turn in when submitting their payments.  Please make sure you have signed the voucher in the appropriate places if you want money taken out of your student account.  I am unable to transfer any money out of your account without the proper signatures.  When you bring your money in please place it in the wooded box that is attached to the wall next to Mr. Greco’s desk.  Make sure your payment is in an envelope before putting it in the box.  If you have any questions regarding your student account, please leave a note in this box or contact Mrs. Hernandez at 736-3332.

Please visit the POLYTECH High School Band website to obtain information about what is happening.  The boosters will be posting information on a regular basis.  The website address is http://www.geocities.com/polytechbands/.  We feel this is great way to communicate with parents.
