Teams: Patrick, Robbie, Maddie, Jacob, Matthew Couto, Chloe, Moyra and Paul vs. Maciej, James, Tommy, Danielle, Matthew Soegtrop, (Green Shirt) Matt and Sierra. Score: 10-8 for Maciej's blue squad. Game Rating (out of 10): 8 - A fast beginning, a slower ending. Notable absentees: Owen, Alex D., Graham, Dylan, Conal. Offensive Player of the Game: Tommy. 3 TDs, including a beautiful touchdown run orchestrated by Hairy Mac Quarter Back. Defensive Player of the Game: Maciej. 4 interceptions, 2 of them converted into TDs. Special Teams Player of the Game: Matthew Couto. Shredded the hell out of the blues special teams defence on numerous occasions. Pitch and Weather: Initially quite warm, but as the evening came, so did the coolie chills. Damn those coolie chills! The pitch itself was shaggier than Maciej's and James' hair combined, and lemme tell you, that is pretty dang shaggy! Summary: The first FFL game in over 3 months was a doozie. This game also marked the beginning of the 2005-06 FFL season. Many regulars returned, and as usual there were FFL debuts (courtesy GS Matt and Paul). The game started off quickly, with Maciej throwing excellent (if not lucky) passes to Tommy and Matthew Soegtrop. The greens responded with some awesome kickoff returns from Patrick, Matthew Couto, and Maddie. The peak of the game came when Tommy ran across towards Maciej, right before he was to receive the snap from James. What resulted was an incredible handoff that Tommy took past three bumbling defenders into the endzone for his 3rd touchdown of the game. However, the game soon went downhill. With the arrival of the "head in the clouds" Moyra, the game was consistently stopped due to roughhousing and stupid plays. For one, the game became one of much mahoney proportion. Robbie, Jacob, Matthew Couto, Maddie, James and Paul all had their share of mahoney heritage. The game was ended by Maciej, arguably playing his best game since the great fish disaster of 84, running back a kickoff past an ever vigilant duo Jacob and Chloe. Bogus Moment of the Day - James being unable to catch about the easiest pass ever. Maciej off the snap tossed a pass to a so totally open James, who for reasons known only to the guy next door and some wanker in Texas, bumbled the ball like his plane was going down and he had all of his parachutes in a game of snakes and ladders. Honorable mentions go to Tommy for his minus 3 yard handoff run, James' ability to have everyone crowd around him whenever he gets injured, and Couto's sliding collision with both the ground and Danielle. Player Ratings (out of 10, 4 being the lowest):
Danielle- 8; Scored twice, didn't mahoney and defended exceptionally well when called upon. Robbie - 7; Should always be QB for his squad. Mahoneys more than Kyle. Patrick - 7.5; Was mostly invisible, despite an incredible end zone catch worthy of Alex D. Matthew Soegtrop - 8.5; Settled down and made 3 world class catches over namesake Couto. Maciej - 9; The NFL should be calling soon. One hell of a toss to James. Tommy - 10; Arguably the FFL's best runningback. 3 TDs, clutch plays on special teams. Paul - 7; A solid FFL debut. Had a few tosses, but mahoneyed a surefire TD early on. Jacob - 9; Without a doubt, the greens best player on this day. Likeable and skilled. James - 9; Despite numerous injuries, including his grass splinter, James was dynamic. Chloe- 6; Not a lot of time on the field, but did make a few catches. Maddie - 6; Should really stop talking all the time. Much better at receiver than as QB. GS Matt - 6.5; One of the best shirts ever worn at an FFL game. Solid debut. Sierra - 6.5; Somehow managed to run the field in flip flops. Moyra - 5; Succeeded in distracting her own team long enough for the blues to win. Matthew Couto - 8; When girls are around, he seems to lose all of his focus. Solid kickoffs. Oreo - 7.5; What a talent! Too bad his appearance was limited to that of the pregame warmups! |
