Teams: Ezra, Robbie, Patrick, James, Dylan and Peter vs. Neil, Tommy, Jordan, Josh and Maciej. Score: a 10-9 squeak out for Neil's sea blue squad. Game Rating (out of 10): 10 - Great skill, lots of heart, tough defence. Notable absentees: Alex, Jacob, Matthew C., Graham, David. Offensive Player of the Game: Jordan. Won the battle of the QBs. Defensive Player of the Game: Tommy. The Iron Hands of Tom. Special Teams Player of the Game: James. Destroyed tackles. Pitch and Weather: Cold. Snowy. You get the picture. Nevertheless, I'll elaborate a bit. Not many people were on hand due to the extreme cold alert, but the turnout was excellent in terms of FFLers. Two prancing fools kept kicking balls here and there, but we'll leave that one for those more interested. Again, the littering of gloves becomes a problem. Someone should call the municipal glove police; of course, it can be disputed whether such a department actually exists. Pat's cast squeaked when he ran. Summary: What a game! For shame to those who missed this one (ahem Jacob and Alex). Those who did come, and there were quite a few, made the game about as entertaining and competitive as they come. Ezra's bowling green team fought hard, led by a stingent and effective receiving corps. Ezra and Pat contributed with timely touchdowns, whilst James attacked the ball and set up excellent yardage for his squad. However, with the timely arrival of Josh, Neil's sea blue bunch managed to squeak out a victory. Jordan fired tosses with mixed results, Neil scrambled in for a few, whilst Maciej tied Dylan to lead all scorers with 3 touchdowns each. The game ended when the bumbling Polak known as Mac ran onto a perfect hail Mary toss from Jordan, danced on the sideline and dived past James and Peter for the game winner. Stuff of legends! Bogus Moment of the Day - James telling Ezra to shutup. Short, but sweetly effective. Player Ratings (out of 10, 4 being the lowest):
Robbie - 8; Eye catching for the most part. Threw with much more confidence. Maciej - 7; Scored the final touchdown, a beaut, but was a floater like a seagul in saltwater. Patrick - 8; His second touchdown was nice; a fingertip snag over two defenders. Jordan - 8.5; Stood at quarterback, and stood out. Spread the offence beautifully. Neil - 7.5; Combined the superlative with the expletive. Seriously, from great to get out. Dylan - 9; Showed a lot of smarts on the field, on his way to a 3 TD performance. Tommy - 8; 1 touchdown, numerous blocks, 5 Hand of Toms. Nice day at the office. Peter - 7.5; 2 touchdowns, solid defence, did what had to be done. Ezra - 7.5; Scored as he always does, but wasn't the deciding factor on this day. Josh - 9.5; Provided a much needed spark from the sea blues. Good blocking on the last play. James - 9; Got great yards after the catch, blocked superbly, wore heart on unfashionable sleeves. |
