2008-09 Season Opener Teams: Maciej (QB), Patrick, Jacob, Alex Jarzy, and Neil vs. Robbie, Matthew C., Matt S., Peter and Ezra. Score - a 13-8 victory for the blues.
In the opening game of the 6th FFL season, the blues defeated the reds 13-8. "What a great game this was," wide-receiver Jacob P. said. "It had it all, and we threw down the gauntlet and they couldn't answer the challenge. I had 'em all pigged." The game started off as a cagey affair, with both teams trading blows. The blues took a 6-4 lead into half-time, thanks to a heads-up grab from the blues Patrick C. "I saw it, I reached, I got it," he said. "It's just that easy." The second half was a blow-out in favor of the reds, as the stacked receiving corps began to break down a porous reds defence. Up by four points with 15 minutes to go, the blues added insult to injury by putting in Jacob at QB. Much maligned for his lack of QB ability in years past, Jacob took his first snap and ran an 80 yard effort for a TD. "I got you all pigged," he said. The game ended with an Alex Jarzy catch, his third TD of the game. "I felt confident out there," the rookie said, playing in first ever FFL game. The FFL moves on from here, with games scheduled tentatively for late next week, giving beat-up players a chance to recover. "I need new ribs," Peter B. said after the game.
Bogus moment - Pat pushing off a tree and absolutely destroying Matthew C. with a wicked deke. This was followed by Maciej running around the field, screaming in delight, for about 5 minutes.
Offensive P.O.G - Jacob P. - Kept his drops to a minimum, and brought a lot of flair. Defensive P.O.G - Alex J. - 5 sacks on flustered reds QB Robbie. Spec Teams P.O.G - Patrick - 2 kickoff touchdowns for the returning all-star.
Ratings Robbie - 6; It's early, so he'll eventually regain his late 07-08 form. Maciej - 8; Saw the field well out there. Wasn't sacked once. Patrick - 9; Efficient performance on all ends of the field. Matthew S.- 6; Struggled for large stretches of the game. Neil - 8; Slotted in everywhere on the field, and with solid results. Ezra - 6; One great catch, but blown away on defence. Jacob - 9; Arguably his best game in years. Looked dominant. Peter - 8; Heart and soul on the line, but still gave up 8 sacks on Robbie. Alex J. - 9; Fantastic debut for the rook, probably the best ever for a first timer. Matthew C. - 7.5; Some incredible catches, but distracted and tired near the end. |
