Teams: Danielle, Kyle, Owen, Alex D., Maciej, and Matthew Soegtrop vs. David, Patrick, Robbie, Matthew Couto, Moyra, Chloe, Graham, and Elliot. Final Score: 17-16 for Danielle and the greens. Game Rating (out of 10): 7 - good start, but slowed down near the end. Offensive Player of the Game: Alex D. Scored 9 times and was a constant danger for the winning blues. Throw it to Alex D. and he'll get you points. Defensive Player of the Game: Alex D. He took on David, and held his own against the bearded behemoth. Need I really say anymore? Special Teams Player of the Game: Matthew Couto. 3 consecutive kickoff touchdowns kept his team in the game early on. Added one more later on. Pitch and Weather: Gorgeous weather. Warm, kinda hazy, and maybe even lazy. The kind of weather perfect for an evening game of fooba. The pitch was littered with a whole load of crap, including that of wooded pencils and boxed nerds. A few cycled dudes sat on a logged wood nearby, viewing. Summary: Despite the close scoreline, the game was never really in doubt. The greens held the lead the entire game, and despite some spirited performances from blues Matthew Couto and David, the greens were in total command. Solid performances from Maciej, who finally threw some awesome spirals, and Alex D., who finally got some quality passes. Honorable mentions go to Tommy for showing up 5 minutes after the game ended, Kyle for outtalking everyone else, Graham for wearing a Nirvana shirt, David for roaring like a drunk Cheerios bee, and Owen for shutting down another potent receiver (Patrick). Bogus Moment of the Day - Again, a lot of bogus moments. Patrick banged his head pretty hard, Danielle deflected the ball off her face right into Owen's waiting hands, David overran his own feet and skated on cement with his hands, Graham bled from his leg, Robbie pointed at it, Moyra was annoying, Chloe boring, and Alex D. sacrificed his own body for the good of the greens on a super block against David. Player Ratings (out of 10, 4 being the lowest): David - 8.5; David is a powerful foe. He is fast (despite his claims that he's not) and uses psychological warfare to scare the living shite out of many of his opponents. He contributed on both ends, and along with Couto, was the best player on the blues. Razor to your cheeks! Patrick - 6.5; Patrick had a very frustrating game. Much like Alex D. the Sunday before, he was covered by the defensively apt Owen, and received very few decent passes. When he finally did receive some passes, he scored. Was okay on defense, limiting Owen to only one receiving TD. Robbie - 6; Spent more time flicking Maciej's hat then actually contributing to the blues cause. Although he did throw 6 TD passes, his decision making was poor. In fact, he threw primarily to Matthew Couto, leaving David, Graham and Patrick quite open. Became predictable in his game. Danielle - 7.5; Danielle contributed as she usually does. Scored twice, and played ample defence. She did admit to being tired, but was not hesitant when her team needed her. When she left for homeward, the greens were left with a gaping offensive hole, that almost cost them the game. Maciej - 7.5; Seems to have regained some of his previous year magic. Although his defence was horrible at times, his offensive contributions made up for it. He was dangerous on special teams particularly, but also threw a few wonderful spirals to his favourite receiver Matt Soegtrop. Matthew Couto - 9; There is just so much skill and power to his game. He has it all; offense, defense and special teams. Along with David, was the best player on the blues. He did tire near the end of the game, which almost entirely put the game on ice for the blues side. Matthew Soegtrop - 7; Despite not being at his fastest and most agile, he did manage to score twice. He also made a few fantastic grabs, despite being guarded by his ever villigent namesake minus the Soegtrop plus the Couto. Was not as effective as expected on special teams however. Owen - 8; Owen played incredibly well on both ends in this game. He smothered Patrick so well that Pat only scored after Owen went to cover someone else. He also provided the greens with another quarterback. Read the game well from the pivot position, finding Alex D. more than once. Moyra - 5.5; Wherever Moyra goes, she leaves an impression. One can argue till the cows come home about whether or not this impression is a positive one. Continues to want to be a quarterback, much to the shagrin of her team. Had a nice interception and was okay on D. Kyle - 5; Really didn't offer much to the greens. Was a warm body more than anything else. He mahoney'd a couple of times, but was unlucky on one play when Moyra blocked a ball that was certain to hit him square in the end zone. Kicked the ball well though. Graham - 6; Didn't provide the comic relief sorely needed to spicen up the game. He did score a few touchdowns though, which obviously helped the blues cause. The highlight of his day was the legged bleed, which sidelined him for a counted 22 minutes. Defence was adequate. Elliot - 7; Played for about 5 minutes, throwing a TD pass. Blues could've used him earlier on. Alex D. - 9.5; Alex came off a disappointing game determined to show why he deserves better passes. Scoring 9 receiving TDs is a feat in itself, but the sheer fact that he defended David so well, and took the brunt of the big man's hits speak volumes of grit and tenacity. Funny guy too! Chloe - 7; Chloe was very decent on both ends. She was however lucky that Matt Couto and Robbie threw to her a lot more than any other receivers. Her good runs helped the blues. |
