Teams: Dominic, Matthew Soegtrop, Maciej, Graham, Kyle, Owen and Lenny vs. Alex D., Patrick, Misha, Moyra, Elliot, Robbie, and Sierra. Final Score: 13-13. Game Rating (out of 10): 8 - flashes of classy play, plus a great turnout. Offensive Player of the Game: Matthew Soegtrop. Scored the most times and in clutch situations. It was almost a sure thing that when Matt caught the ball, he was going to score. He was just that good. Defensive Player of the Game: Owen. For the sheer fact that he limited Alex D's TDs to one is the reason Owen gets the nod for defensive player of the game. Alex D. may not have gotten a lot of throws, but that was largely due to the excellent man to man coverage provided by Owen. Special Teams Player of the Game: Elliot. Was a beast off special teams kickoffs, scoring once on a kickoff TD and managing to gain super yardage the entire game. Also has a super boot. Pitch and Weather: Not sunny, but rather cloudy. But man was it warm. Some complained of oncoming drizzle, but that passed yonder after a few minutes. The field itself was in tip top shape, probably because its water to grass density was just perfect. Summary: The greens started off with an early lead, thanks largely to the terrible defensive coverage offered up by the blues early on. In fact, the coverage was so bad, that on one occasion three receivers were wide open on the left, whilst a congregation of bumbling blues talked of chips and papricorns. The blues did mount a superb comeback, aided by the terrible handling of kicks by the greens. Owen, Kyle, Dominic, and Maciej all screwed up on consecutive kicks, which gave possession to the blues in perfect field position. The game was ended on a superb run by Elliot who ran the entire field to score on of his many touchdowns. Throughout the game, Lenny looked confused, Misha and Moyra decided that running was overrated, Kyle was totally open, Patrick looked suave, Tommy was nowhere to be seen, Robbie wore the same shirt, Dominic chased every ball, Matt Soegtrop opened his mouth wide enough to fit three fat Scandinavian marshmallows and Owen wore a ten pound sweater in 20 degree weather. Bogus Moment of the Day - Robbie's finger tip reception, Maciej's kickoff swashbuckling run, Lenny's confused TD catches, Patrick's awkward fall, Robbie's look what I found look, Owen's handoff run, Kyle's overhead lateral, Graham's catch of the ball with his face or Alex D's superb catch. Take your pick. Player Ratings (out of 10, 4 being the lowest): Dominic - 8; A great debut for Dominic, who was incredibly effective on the offensive side. However he was burned a couple of times on defense. Yet classily, he did admit to his mistakes. Patrick - 8; Proves time and time again that people with hair can play football. He is one of the most reliable receivers in the FFL, but is lacking the flair needed on special teams. Wierd fall! Robbie - 7.5; For some reason, Robbie did not play at quarterback as much as he probably should have. Yet he showed his versatility by playing receiver and making some sweet snags. Misha - 6; Well, um...she was there I guess. Did not receive even one reception, nor did she get any throws directed at her. The highlight of her day was the stringed foam incident(s). Maciej - 7; Finally showed some of last years fooba chemistry with Matthew Soegtrop. Had a few good throws, but the highlight of his day was the kickoff touchdown run. Spiral slowly returning. Lenny - 8.5; Despite looking confused when (awkwardly) catching the ball, Lenny scored twice, and played solid defense. Plus, he didn't go to the store during the game this time. Good show! Matthew Soegtrop - 9; Managed to score when it counted the most. Didn't have a lot to do on the defensive side, but was fully energized when it came to score crucial points. Agile as always Owen - 8; Normally, Owen contributes more on the offensive side than on the defensive one. However, he was the best defensive player in this game, limiting the dangerous Alex D. to one TD. Moyra - 6.5; Had her ups and downs this game. On the plus side, she did have an interception and made some good catches. On the down side, she played quarterback. Kyle - 7; Let's just say this guy likes to kick the ball. A lot. He also scored a touchdown and got open on numerous occasions. His defense was solid, if unspectacular. A good FFL debut. Graham - 7; Funny guy, Graham. As always, he contributes in his own way. When not verbally sparring with the opposition, Graham plays a safe overall game. Was burned on D at times. Elliot - 9; The best player on the blues without a doubt. Was everywhere, wanted the ball in crucial situations, and made it count when he got the chance. Plays a fiercely competitive game. Alex D. - 7; Alex was the victim of a lack of passes and a great defensive performance from Owen. Managed a TD plus a superb grab, but for some reason was omitted from the blues O. Sierra - 7.5; A very quiet contributor. Was the most focused of the three girls, and naturally was the best contributor. She scored twice, and also played some very respectable defense. |
