Teams: Matthew Couto, Alex D., Patrick, Robbie vs. Alex J., Matthew Soegtrop, Maciej and Tommy.
Final Score: 12-8 for Matt Couto and the blues. Game Rating (out of 10): 5 - tiredness, switch of fields, goofy giggles. Offensive Player of the Game: Matthew Couto. As his team won the game, it was only fitting to give the accolade to Couto. He scored on the ground, in the air, and on the grounded air. Defensive Player of the Game: Matthew Soegtrop. He played with all his heart, and defended Matthew Couto well despite the size difference. Ran full out, defended well on man to man coverage and had a few picks. Special Teams Player of the Game: Matthew Couto. Matt Couto was incredibly dangerous on kickoffs, scoring twice and stopping a number of dangerous plays by the greens. He also had one hell of a boot. Pitch and Weather: Fern Avenue Field was not covered in ice, which initially intimidated the players of the FFL. Where is the ice, they cried, but to no one in particular. Unfortunately, Mr. K decided that the fields grass to water ratio was insufficient to support the shoe soles of eight FFL players, so he had us move on. Sorauren Park field, the alternate field alternative alternate (?) was mud. That's all one could say. It was also sunny and warmy. Summary: Everyone seemed tired in today's FFL game. The turnout was quite decent, but everyone seemed to be more interested in reacquainting their faces with their pillows rather than playing an FFL game. Tommy in particular looked like he had just emerged from an electrified car wash. The game itself was dominated by the blues from start to finish. Robbie, blessed with one of the most talented receiving corps in FFL gameage history, gleefully giggled like a kid in a candy store. Matt Couto was dominating in all aspects of the game as usual, Patrick continued his catching mastery, and Alex D. quietly contributed with a few fantastic catches and defensive blocks on Tommy. The greens were led by Matthew Soegtrop, who was not only a force on the offensive side but also one on the defensive end. He had two great interceptions and was able to keep Couto at a scoring woe. The other greens looked out of shape. Maciej wheezed like a geezer with a cane in his backside, Alex J. claimed that his parents were seagulls, and Tommy was quiet after his two early touchdown catches. After K's rants, the game moved to the FFL's alternate field, Sorauren Park, aptly renamed Mudhole. There, the game was played to a large audience, but was severely hindered by windage. Bogus Moment of the Day - Tommy, who despite acting very quickly on a fumble, decided that using his face to recover a ball would be a better option than his hands. It wasn't a good choice. Player Ratings (out of 10, 4 being the lowest): Tommy - 7.5; Tommy was able to contribute much to the greens offensive cause with 2 fantastic catches for touchdowns. However, his defence was somewhat lacking. The Hand of Tom was seen only once in the game, a statistic that would've shocked King Louie himself. Patrick - 7; After coming off a brilliant game, Patrick played a moderate one: by his standards at least. He scored three times, but was deked on several occasions by Alex J and was hesitant on kickoff returns. He also seemed frustrated with a lack of passes, but what else is new. Robbie - 7; Robbie continues to improve as a quarterback. Again, he threw the ball very well, but was later severely hindered by the Mudhole Park windage. He also showed his versatility by scoring a kickoff touchdown from a perfect Matt Couto lateral pass. Alex J. - 7; Played well for the first half of the game, but developed the gigglies afterwards. He also ended up chasing a plastic bag down the field, sat on a garbage can to keep the bag from coming out again, and scored a fantastic kickoff touchdown. Productive, to say the least. Maciej - 6; Maciej, despite being reunited with his favourite receiver, did not lead the greens to a win. In fact, he threw 4 interceptions and overthrew his receivers on many occasions. On the plus side, the spiral did return for a few brief appearances. Pity he didn't use it to his advantage. Matthew Couto - 8.5; After a long absence from FFL football, Couto decided that he'd remind people why he is one of the best players in FFL history. He scored on almost every possession and was able to break up many plays. However, his teamplay could use some improvement. Matthew Soegtrop - 8; No one will ever doubt that Mini Soegtrop comes to play every game. He was the only reason the greens were not blown out by the blues in this game. A testament to the credo that "mini soegtrops are fast." You say you never heard that credo? Eat me. Alex D. - 7.5; Has to be one of the most consistent contributors in the FFL. Scored and blocked, intercepted and caught. Did everything that one could ask of a player. Everything except that one play where he tried to smother the loose ball with his knee. That was some bad decision making. |
