Von Willebrands Disease is an inherited bleeding disorder found in doberman pinscher's. These dogs do not effectively utilize thier platelets for blood clotting and are more likely to have bleeding episodes during minor trauma or surgery. There is a medication they can give these dogs before surgery though to help prevent bleeding during surgery. |
|

"Wobblers" disease also called CVI, affects the vertabra in the dobermans neck and causes them to walk "wobbly" for the rest of thier lifes. In severe cases the dog will become paralized. In milder cases the dog walks "wobbly" for its entire life. Surgery may or may not help. Consult a veterinarian with previous experiance.
Cardiomypathy affects the heart of the doberman. It is believed to be inherited. And some people think your dog can develop it at a later age even. Not just inherite it as a puppy. Your dog will cough, not eat, be uncomfortable....ect. The cough it caused by fluid in the lungs from the heart condition. The dog is also not able to exersize for long periods of time if at all. I was shocked to see so many dobies in dog pounds and shelters. I thought maybe if the general pet buyer was more aware we would see less dobies given up to shelters and rescue groups. Hypothyroidism is another condition that can affect your doberman pinscher. It means the thyroid in your dog is not producing enough hormone to maintain your dogs metabolism. Symptoms can be weakness, fatigue, not tollerate the cold well, weight gain, or appetite loss just to name a few. Medication perscribed by your vet may help. |
