Monteray Bay Aquarium- This is a wonderful site to introduce students to the diversity of life in our oceans. There are games for students and lesson plans and activities for teachers.
Exxon Valdez Oil Spill- This site has information on one of the worst oil spills in history.
Green Peace- The Green Peace "Defending Our Oceans" section has lots of information on how trash affects our ocean. It even has an animated visual of how the currents move trash from one coast to another.
Block Publishing- This teacher resource site has a cool downloadable poster and some classroom activity sheets.
Lesson Plans
Pollution Solution- This is a lesson from the Smithsonian Institute. It includes lessons on how to clean up oil spills in different ocean environments and students building their own oceans.
Oil Spill Activities- NASA offers these simple lessons on how oil affects wildlife, oil consumption and the size of an oil tanker.
Ocean Debris- This unit offered by the EPA covers ocean debris. Each part of the unit is a downloadable booklet containing several pages.
More Pollution Solutions- The Discovery Channel provides this lesson on water habitat pollution. It includes a vocabulary list and several ocean site links.
My Lesson Plan- This lesson teaches students the effects of pollution on ocean wildlife.
