Land Pollution - Clean-up Efforts

Lake and Rivers Pollution

Since the 1970's there has been a great awareness to our impact on the environment! People have been taking personal responsibility in their role with the environment. Many organizations have been established out of understanding just how important it is to preserve the natural resources that we have.

There have also been countless scientific breakthroughs relating to handling nature with care. We are now using things that we once considered waste in order to produce more products and energy. Below are some examples of things that were made from recycled "garbage".

The use of landfill gas:

  • Landfills are being developed so that
gas is extracted from them and they use a series of wells and a vacuum system
  • Capturing and using Landfill gas can yield substantial energy, economic, environmental, air quality, and public health benefits.
  • The gas can then be used to produce electricity with engines, turbines, microturbines, or other technologies.
  • It can also be used as an alternative to fossil fuels, or refined and injected into the natural gas pipeline.

The use of Coal Mine Gas:

  • Coal mines are producing methane gas just like landfills.
  • Trapping and using the gas has many benefits.
