Family Life 2 Syllabus

Course Description:

This course will guide the student through the stresses each individual must assume to improve family life. The establishment and maintenance of interpersonal relationships, preparation for marriage and family life, and the management of resources to achieve individual and family goals are the focus of this course.

Credits:

Family life 2 is a semester course. It is currently taught opposite Parenthood Education 2. Completion of this course will earn one-half elective credit toward graduation.

Meeting family needs in the areas of:

Nutrition

Housing

Transportation

Clothing

 

Families in Crisis:

Abuse/Addiction

Unemployment/Bankruptcy

Nursing Home/Retirement/Death

Natural Disasters

 

Grading Procedures:

Students will work on a number of projects and classroom assignments in the classroom and in the computer lab. All work should be turned in the day the assignment is due. Class work will count one-third of the grade while tests and projects will count the other two-thirds of the grade. Exams count 20%.

Since this is a semester class, a student may only have three unexcused absences and still receive credit for the course.

It is your responsibility to ask for any assignments that are missed due to absence or school sponsored field trip. Remember, that you have the number of days you were absent, plus one to make up the work. All make up work is to be done from 7:30AM to 8:00AM or between the hours of 3:00PM and 4:00PM.

Class Rules:

  1. Be prepared for class before the bell rings.
  2. Be in your seat before the bell rings.
  3. Do not eat nor chew gum in this class. (Unless of course we cook the food.)
  4. Bring notebook, pen or pencil, and your book to class each day.
  5. Be courteous to everyone in class.
  6. Take responsibility for your share of all work.

Health Improvement Project

Introduction:

The purpose of this project is to challenge the student to improve health habits.

Task:

    Improve your health habits by reading 13 Healthy Habits to Improve your Life and then applying the habits to your daily living.

Process:

    Using the above source you will rate your current health habits. You will then develop a plan to improve your habits over the next three weeks. The plan should include the following :

Learning Advice:

  1. Explain what you eat for breakfast now. Write up an improvement plan and tell how you will begin to improve your current habits.
  2. Explain your feelings about eating fish and give examples of how you plan to increase your consumption of healthy fish.
  3. Explain why getting sufficient sleep is so important. Include how much sleep you normally get each night and a plan to improve if needed.
  4. Explain why belonging to a social group is beneficial to your health and tell what groups you belong to at the present time. If you need to improve in this area make a plan for improvement.
  5. Explain the relationship between exercise and good health. Tell how often you exercise at the present time. (Be honest) Create an exercise program to allow for at least 30 minutes of exercise five days a week. You need both aerobic and strength exercises.
  6. Explain the need for flossing your teeth. Work daily flossing into your routine.
  7. Explain how hobbies are beneficial to your health. Tell what your hobby is and make a time schedule to make sure you have time for it at least two times a week. If you do not have a hobby, look for something that would interest you and make a plan to begin enjoying your leisure time.
  8. Explain why sunscreen is important. Keep a record of outdoor times and your use of sunscreen.
  9. List current snacks. Make a plan to increase the number of healthy snacks consumed each day. List your changes for the next three weeks.
  10. Explain why water is important for good health. Make a plan to increase water intake and keep records of your improvements.
  11. Record the number of times you drink tea daily. Explain why is would be beneficial for you to increase your tea intake. Make a plan to replace your soft drinks with tea.
  12. Explain why walking is important to your health. List ways you can increase the amount of time spent walking daily.
  13. Develop an overall health improvement plan and keep records of your improvement over the next three weeks.

Conclusion:

    At the end of the three week period you should see an improvement in the way you feel and your outlook on life.

Apartment Portfolio

Task:

Prepare a portfolio with scale drawings of each room in a given apartment. arrange "cut-to-scale" furniture drawings in the room and make a folder with color, pictures of furnishings, and accessories. Prices should be included for all furniture and accessories.

Process:

                     Scale drawing with furniture pasted in the room.

                    Pictures of furnishings and accessories.

                    Total cost of room.

Note*

You have a $6,000 budget for completing the rooms.

Remember all of the furniture must fit into the room.
