      General Info Harware

As discussed on the previous page, everyone has a Need for Speed.  Whether it be driving a car, or riding the fastest roller coaster in the country, the world wants to be up on top and fast paced.  SDSL offers services that generally (in our area) are as high as 1.5Mbps.  I personally am about 3000 feet away from my nearest CO.  My average speeds when connected are 690Kbps (downstream) and 640Kbps (upstream). So yes I guess it is pretty fast. =)

One of the benefits of being connected on a high speed line is downloading files.  MP3 format has become so popular today online.  Everyday more than one million MP3 files are downloaded from FTPs, websites, and file sharing programs, such as the popular Napster.  Below is a picture of how fast an MP3 file can be downloaded from Napster.

Napster

This 4.3MB file was downloaded in about 45 seconds at an average rate of 78.11kb/s.  Things like this and watching a web page load in five seconds or less is remarkable.

Another great benefit is always being connected online.  Unlike dialup internet access, SDSL is always on 24/7 (unless the service goes down) and there are no busy signals or screen names and passwords to enter (unless it's Verizon).  Plus the phone line is free as well.  No worrying about getting offline to answer a call.  SDSL allows that regular voice (analog) calls be done while you are still connected.  It is a great service overall.
