Portraits by Politas

This is a portrait of my brother David. I had drawn a rough picture of him just prior to this one, and the particular grin he had in that one reminded me of Peter Pan. So I drew this picture, trying to capture that quality again. I didn't quite get it. This picture makes him a look younger than he really was at the time, which I was trying to do. This, by the way, is one of my rare forays into teeth.

My brother David as Peter Pan

Portraits drawn during boring meetings

A doodle that looks like my father This wasn't supposed to be anyone in particular when I started drawing it, but it ended up looking quite like my father.

I spent quite some time on this one, trying to get it perfect

This one was just a quick doodle.

Ah, the horrors of working with ink, once I had that cheek line done, there was nothing I could do.

One of my best caricatures. Shame about the ruled paper. I took most of it out, but you can still see it in the hair.

I'm fairly happy with this, although the mouth is wrong, as you can probably see.

If you recognise yourself in any of these pictures, and wish to take a copy for your own purposes, I give permission under the following three conditions:

1. The image file may not be modified in any way, other than conversion to a different storage format.

2. The image may not be printed or in other means converted from electronic to physical medium.

3. The authorship of the image must be stated if the picture is displayed or broadcast (eg. Portrait by Michael Dowling)

If the image is used on a web page, I would appreciate it if the authorship statement was made into a link pointing to this web site. If you choose to do this, and e-mail me with information, I will be happy to link back to you, using the image here as a link. I also have larger versions of all these images available by e-mailing me.

If you like the look of my portraits, and would like one of yourself to spice up your web site or decorate your house, e-mail me and we can arrange something. I will charge a small fee for gif portraits, and a somewhat larger fee if you wish for an original paper copy. Original portraits will be approximately A4 size or smaller.
