:.What is Anime?.:

What is "anime"?

The term comes from the English word "animation". In Japan it is used to refer to all kinds of animation (for example Disney Cartoons, Japanese Cartoons or even animations like Shrek). For the rest of the world, the word "anime" refers to the animation produced only in Japan.

The Japanese animation has some characteristics that make it different from other animations.

Anime most of the times have deep and interesting stories, in contrast with American "toons" that have one-episode and superficial stories. Anime are also distinguished by the characteristic drawing style which features characters with detailed clothes and hair, big eyes and certain common facial expressions.

Anime are an evolution of the Japanese comics called "manga" and  started in 1960 when manga artists started experimenting with motion pictures. In the 80s, Osamu Tezuka evolved them in a very respected art form and anime have made a great success not only in Japan, but also in America and all other countries.

Anime are not only for children! This is a common logic that must must be surpassed. Of course, there are some anime that are made for kids but they are few. Most anime are for people from 15 to ... They feature very interesting stories and the artwork sometimes may be amazing. They transmit a huge amount of emotions and not few can be the times that you find yourself crying.

Anime can be divided in many categories, such as:

  • Action

  • Fantasy

  • Mecha

  • Fighting

  • Science Fiction

  • Comedy

  • Sports

  • Drama

  • Romance

  • Horror

  • Adventure

  • Shonen

  • Shoujo

...and many more... This shows us the wide selection range that someone has when it comes to anime.

Someone can find anime by visiting a DVD shop that has anime movies on DVD or a website like AMAZON and search for a certain title. The illegal way to download anime are bittorent sites like AnimeSuki and IRC servers like irc.rizon.net.
