Dearest friend I should begin by asking how you're doing
But my time is short and so I've got to keep it movin'
I would like to get right to the point and if I may
Open up my heart to share some things with you I need to say
I wish I could change what that man did to you
Every single nightmare that he put you through
Every word that was spoken over you that isn't true
Every fear, every tear, every scar, every bruise
But the fact of the matter is I can't
Revisit in the past and take all that back
And the damage that was done is still potent
And it's outside of me to try to fix what was broken
I listen to you talk about yourself and where you've been
The striving for fulfillment in acceptance of men
Wondering if maybe I could be the one to end
The hatred that you harbor in your heart for all of them
It's confusing watching you repeat the same patterns
That have you garnered you an image of yourself that is tattered
Battered, scattered, pieces laying aimlessly
Changing faces or the places really doesn't change a thing
'Cause you can look right in the mirror and miss it
While from a distance I can see the image of a princess
One who's been discarded as an object simply common
Worthy of the bottom of society and rotten
Hurting people hurt each other, you don't need another lover
'til you learn to love the person that you are, no undercover
Whispers from a father figure can define your pricelessness
Nor can strongarm tactics of the coward meant to frighten kids
Men have played some games with you, thought you were to blame did you?
Birthed a mix of self-loathing bitterness and pain in you
So that sucker cheated, did you really need him?
What did you see in him? Something he'd given
Or something he took, or that he tried to take
Did it tell you you were worth his time and effort, babe?
What about respect, what about sacrifice
What about commitment for the rest of your life
How about his love and nurturing because he recognized
When he looked in your eyes that you were the one
Worth searching out and for until the day he died, never satisfied
With the part of you that he had come to know at other times
Is that woman who you see when you see your reflection?
Tell me who it is you see when you see your reflection
Is it worth protection, is it worth his honor
Is it someone who is worthless 'cause she heard her father
Tell her she was nobody and nothing every single day
And he still ignores your presence to this very day
Is there anything or any words that he could say
That would take the pain away and make the hurting all okay?
Sitting here across from you I wish I had the means
To convince you you are someone special and you are a queen
But you seem to hardly listen when I talk to you
I can tell your interest lies in other types and sorts of dudes
Those who treat you bad and valueless, not like a daughter
Of the God who made you in the heavens, He's a perfect father
Made you in His image, took the time to place you
In a certain page in history just to reveal His face to you
And grace to you in only ways that you could truly understand
Show you love's fulfillment that you'll never find in a man
Take your hand and lead you lovingly to things imagined
Only in the reaches of our hearts that we don't dare to fathom
And repair the chasm that's been left inside of you
By the ones He trusted to watch over you and care for you
Yes, He knew that it would happen but it wasn't His decision
It's His grace that's kept you safe to here, believe that His provision
Isn't fiction, He's committed to His plan for you
So much so that Jesus took the cross and spread His hands for you
I would never dare to say that people didn't play
A part in what you're running from and coping with from day to day
But since He didn't do it, don't take it out on Him
It's us who are to blame, the problem here is sin
Your earthly father failed you, men have let you down
Took advantage, left you stranded, played you up and torn you down
Learned to bounce back from the liars and the cheats
But you lost your innocence along the way, piece by piece
He can teach you how to trust again no matter what
Another person does to you to misuse and abuse your love
So from a friend I sign this letter to...
I'll never know 'til life is over if I'm plan B
But if I could only say what can be said in one breath
It'd be that He loves you so much He accepted death
