In the end
Chapter 3

Disclaimer: Heheheh... You’re kidding, right? Me own DBZ? Heheheh... Try asking again next time you see a pig floating through the air, and I don’t mean a pig-shaped balloon.

Warnings: OOC Goku. Drinking. Violence (this is DBZ! You expected kittens offering lemonade?).

‘The Prince of all Fighters’ won his next several matches, naturally. Goku had stopped drinking after the second match. He was too interested in this to let himself pass out in a drunken stupor before it was over.

"You know, that guy looks almost like Vegeta, only Vegeta would never cut his hair like that or grin that stupidly." Bulma remarked as The Prince of all Fighters grinned up at the audience in a way that reminded Goku of the last time he’d smiled at a mirror. The man’s short-cropped hair was/i> un-Vegeta-like, but Goku was getting a little suspicious. This was after all, supposed to be the match for ‘The greatest under the heavens’, and avoiding Goku or not, there was no way Vegeta would miss something like this.

"Aaaand the final match is... Trunks Briefs vs The Prince of all Fighters!" the announcer blared at twice the volume it had been screeching at before. Goku winced at the assault on his sensitive ears. Bulma waved at her son as he walked up the steps onto the ring. She had insisted her son use his real name for the match, to gain the Briefs family even more publicity.
...Not that anyone really thought they needed more.

The Prince of all Fighters was standing in the ring, not in any stance Goku could see, smiling lopsidedly at Trunks. Trunks lowered into a stance and the man’s lips twitched up, and he waved slightly at the lavender-haired demi-Saiyajin.

Half the people in the stand facefaulted at that, the others just sweatdropped.

The bell sounded and the man simply stood there, but Goku could feel him powering up. The energy that was now rolling off the man was sooo familiar, but not quite like anything Goku had sensed before. Trunks, also sensing the power building in the short, gray-haired man, started powering up himself.

They both stopped just short of what would send Trunks into super Saiyajin. Trunks smirked at the man, thinking he was at his limit, and made his move.

Trunks’ image blurred out of sight, though Goku could still see, as he charged forwards in attack. They paused again, the audience had seen Trunks disappear, and the man’s arm had snapped down, and now Trunks found his blow to the man’s stomach blocked neatly by the back of a powerful arm.

Trunks moved again.

--- --- ---

Several minutes later and neither Trunks nor The Prince of all Fighters showed any signs of tiring. They were both in the air now, exchanging blows, kicks, and energy blasts.

The audience was, of course, stunned.

Trunks was hard-pressed to resist the urge to go super Saiyajin. Everyone of the demi-Saiyajin had agreed before the match that they would not go super-Saiyajin and Goten would keep his regenerated tail in check (which meant wrapped around his waist with the tip tied down so he wouldn’t forget and wave it about). This man acted as if he was trying to drive Trunks into the golden form.

As Trunks was resisting the urge to ascend, Goku was resisting the urge to leapt up there, grab the man, and shake him while yelling; "Do you know where Vegeta is?! Are you Vegeta?! Am I Vegeta?! Why are there two of you when I only sense one ki?!"

As you may have guessed, the beer was really starting to hit Goku.

Trunks and his opponent were oblivious to the drunken Saiyajin’s dilemma however. They fought on, unaware of the thoughts whirling and colliding through one Son Goku’s head.

Trunks was slowly losing his advantage, and soon the two were fighting on perfectly equal ground, as high above it as they were. Both were showing signs of tiring, and they both charged up an energy blast at the same time, blasting them off in perfect synchronization, and settled into a dead standoff as the blasts met each other perfectly centered between the two fighters.

Goku found himself unable to blink.

Both seemed to be using their most powerful energy blast. That is, Trunks was using his most powerful blast and the man was matching him perfectly. Both were running low on energy though, and they released their ki-blasts at the same time to rejoin in a powerful dance of blood and fists.

Then two arms passed each other, both striking home powerfully, and two forms fell from the sky, landing together, one on the ring, one on the grass.

Goku stared.
