Julie Ham
RCompN, Certificate in Early Childhood, Family and Community Health (Plunket), BA (SocSci), Certificate Health Promotion.
Julie has a background in nursing and community health. Since 1990 she has worked across Nelson/Marlborough in NGOs (The Royal NZ Plunket Society and The Cancer Society) and then in the government sector with the Public Health Service.
Experience in community and programme development includes:
- Establishing the Parents As First Teachers (PAFT) programme in Nelson and Marlborough.
- Coordinating Sunsmart, Smokefree and Nutrition health promotion programmes in the Cancer Society.
- Establishing a falls prevention programme.
- Advocacy and submissions leading to the establishment of a public bus service.
- Advocacy and establishment of a children's spectacles subsidy.
- Managing Grandparent Readers volunteer programme in schools and Bookstart - a multi-agency programme promoting literacy.
- Consultation exercise between Public Health and Education sectors regarding influences on children's learning.
- Qualitative research.
Julie has a passion for addressing inequalities and the underlying social determinants of health.
