Last time, Mina's friend Celeste arrived and met the inner scouts. Celeste is a smart girl, with a sunny disposition, and a good sense of humor. With these characteristics, and her charming dove Phoebe, Celeste won the hearts of the gang of friends. Celeste also learned that she could trust these girls to not take advantage of who her parents are. On a darker note, a ship with a society known as the Evolites is approaching the earth. Their sadistic leader, Fauna, has set the Clan of the Swarm on a mission to steal bright futures from humans. The leader of the Swarm is the Monarch Butterfly, a seemingly genderless member of Fauna's elite colonels. And so our story continues…
Sunday, March 8
All the girls were laughing as they walked out of the Java Hut. Serena was in a good mood since Rini was back visiting the Future, and Diana had gone along. So for once she had Darien solely to herself. And she felt inclined to like Celeste, Mina's best friend. Celeste seems so calm and relaxed around us. I feel as if she belongs with us. I doubt it is because she is a potential scout. No way. Mina told me she knew her since her days as Sailor V, and she would have emerged as a scout then. Besides, we have plenty of scouts and what planets are left that she could be the guardian of? No, it must just be that Celeste is such a wickedly cool person. Although, I do wonder about the name slip up… Soon Serena felt comfortable enough to talk about Darien, while the rest of the girls groaned.
But Celeste seemed interested. She was curious, but didn't like manipulating people into divulging information. She was interested enough to send Phoebe on a homeward bound flight. Serena started walking backwards and a little bit ahead, so that she could face her single apt listener. Just as they reached a corner, Serena tripped into someone and fell flat on her rear end.
Everyone but Celeste froze in place, who held out her hand to help pull Serena up. Serena turned around to apologize and gasped at who stood before her.
"I should have known it was you Moon face. Long time no see," greeted a deep, eerily female voice. As the tall, slender figure said that, a young lady with wavy blue-green hair greeted, "Hello Serena. I see you haven't changed much. And how are the rest of you doing?" Amy exclaimed as she saw her mentor, "Amara! Michelle! We haven't seen you two in a long time. It is nice to see you again." Mina grinned at the two, while Serena griped about her behind being sore. Lita held up two fingers in a signal of greeting. Raye and Celeste were the only ones not joining in the reunion. Why are they here? It isn't that I'm not glad to see them; it's just that this doesn't mean good fortune for the scouts and the rest of the senshi. I'll know we are in really big trouble when we see Trista, and Hotaru with her memory intact. And what is the connection with Celeste and Amara and Michelle all showing up on the same day. Is Celeste a new enemy? A friend from the future? A new senshi? Relax Raye. Celeste is just a normal, if extraordinary, girl. And Amara and Michelle are probably coming back just for a visit after a long time. For goodness sake, we haven't seen them since shortly after the Sailor Saturn, Pharaoh 90, purity chalice incident. Besides, they haven't said anything. Yet.
Celeste vaguely remembered that two girls, one very masculine, the other very elegant, were once or twice mentioned in Mina's letters. The infamous Amara and Michelle. That was all she recalled, except that they were a little older than the rest of Mina's friends. While Celeste was privately amused with the reunion among friends, she was beginning to feel left out. Before she let herself become depressed, she decided to stop depending on the girls' limited observation capabilities, and take matters into her own hands. While Michelle mentioned something about how she has visited the sea for the past couple of days, Celeste gave a not-so subtle cough. All eyes were on her as she stated, "I hate to be rude, but would someone mind telling me who these two friends of yours are? And I intend to discover their personalities without aid, but an introduction would be not-so humbly accepted." After everyone got over their embarrassment over their absentminded behavior, Celeste received a few chuckles for her honest, and mildly hypocritical wording. It went without thought that Mina was designated for the job. "Amara, Michelle, this is my amazing friend Celeste Aglaia. Celeste, this is Michelle Kaiou," indicating the blue-green haired young lady, "and this is Amara Ten'ou," putting her hand on the slender blonde's shoulder. Celeste archly commented, "Mina, I appreciate the extremely biased introduction."
Celeste appeared oblivious as she faced the duo's critical appraisal. But in fact she noted more with her quick glances than they did. Michelle ran her hand through her blue-green hair that perfectly framed her beautiful face. Celeste couldn't help but admire her complementing features. Most would have dismissed Michelle as being on the fragile side, but Celeste actually interpreted a strength that often appeared in the form of passion. As Michelle finally extended her hand, Celeste noticed certain details. Then when Amara took a firm grip, Celeste had this feeling that Amara was in denial as to who she really was. It must have been the slight hunch in the posture and arrogantly held chin. When Amara stepped back, Celeste took note of the inward incline of her feet.
Celeste took it upon herself to once again, get the ball rolling. "Michelle, you must be an artist of some sorts," and ceased to speak when everyone stared, including Mina. What is it about today and my making these people uncomfortable with one comment? Michelle gave Mina a questioning look, and when Mina shook her head, her curiosity was aroused. "How did you know?" Celeste replied that her hands gave the clue. She laughed as Michelle was seeing if her meticulous cleaning had missed any debris. "Silly, it wasn't something ON you hands. It is your actual hands." When she got weird looks, she continued, "Basic palmistry. Simply, you have slender hands, with long fingers that taper slightly and come to a rounded point. Characteristics associated with artists. Also you have callouses on your hands that indicate you're a musician."
At this explanation, everyone looked at their hands. Then Serena and Mina got into a quarrel about whose hands where more artistic. Raye and Lita started a quiet conversation, and Amy quickly went into the store they were standing outside of to use the restroom. "Michelle, I take it you are either a painter, or sculptor, by the way you looked at your hands a moment ago." Michelle started warming up to this strange girl. "Actually, I'm both. That is along with being a musician, as you surmised. I personally favor the violin, but I'm excellent on the piano and flute. Those and the clarinet, harp, and lyre. But it is our tendency to succeed, right Speed-Demon?" and cocked her head to the side. Ahh. That explains the close bond I see in their body language. That name was used as an endearment, not a nickname. Did Mina ever mention this in her letters?
"I fear what you would do if I dared to disagree," Amara commented. Celeste stated, "And you must be a runner." "Did my hands tell you that?" "No, actually it was you feet. All great runners seem to have been pigeon toed, like you." Michelle interjected, "My, my. You certainly are observant." Amara continued, "Which is a good skill to have, one neither of us have quite mastered. But it appears you have." Celeste volleyed, "Whoever claims I am a master, is one who surely lacks the skill." Michelle nudged Amara and whispered, "She's got you there. I recommend stopping before you fall much more behind," and bowed her head in defeat, while urging Amara to do the same. "We need to quickly say our goodbyes. We have some other old allies to run into," Amara said. "It was nice meeting you, Celeste." "Likewise Michelle, Amara." Right as Amy exited the store, Celeste walked in to also use the restroom.
Amara and Michelle started a new talk with the scouts. Michelle started with, "I've sensed a new turbulence coming from the sea. The gentle waves have gotten harsher." "We believe there is a new force coming to the earth. One which neither Neptune and I, nor all the Outers, nor you yourselves alone could defeat. Trista has sent word that she will be arriving within this week along with Princess Rini. We fear that this new evil is beyond our current powers. That is why we have called upon Pluto, yourselves, and will soon reawaken Saturn." All the scouts were stricken with horror. The arrogant Outers were asking for their help? What could this force be that it frightens them so much?
Amy asked, "Do you know what this force is and when it'll arrive?" Michelle solemnly responded, "We fear we are as much in the dark as you are. All we know is that it shall be soon, and is very powerful and malevolent." Raye saw Celeste come out of the store. "We are planning on meeting at the park after we walk Celeste home. Meet us there is two hours. I plan on attempting a fire reading for more information." Amara and Michelle nodded. Serena said, "Celeste, we should get going if you don't want to miss out on your big date." Lita added, "Besides, if we wait much longer, it will get dark by the time we reach the park." Celeste agreed and said how the studio was only three blocks away. She said she could go on alone, but the girls insisted on going along.
As they left they heard Michelle call back, "Remember the sea is in turmoil." As the scouts and Celeste left hearing range, Amara said, "All the factors for a big mess are apparent. Trouble is definitely brewing. But how long before this brew is ready?"
The Monarch Butterfly looked upon the rest of the Clan when he deemed it time for a lunch break. Richard (1st Captain of the Swarm; a.k.a. Cricket) was polishing his prized violin. The green haired connoisseur was one of two who was giving more than half of his attention to what the Monarch was saying. If it weren't for the fact that Richard doesn't fit certain requirements, I would definitely recommend him to be promoted to a General. All those lazy slobs take their privileges for granted, with little thought about the associated responsibility. I know, I'll talk with Fauna next time I see her, and see if the rank of the 1st of the Captains can be upped to equal to 3rd of the Generals. That should show those sluggish 3rd and lower ranked Generals that their rank isn't as secure as they would like. Perfect. Then the Monarch hid a smirk as he glanced at Natalie (5th General of the Swarm; a.k.a. Snail), Cornelius (4th General of the Swarm; a.k.a. Scorpion), and Sebastian (3rd General of the Swarm; a.k.a. Wasp), who were all griping about the fact that they have to sit through this boring meeting. Warvus (7th Captain of the Swarm; a.k.a. Beetle), the lowest ranking member of the Clan, was fighting a nap, now that he was finished with his meal of gourmet rutaya. I'll send him to be the first to test out this planet. While he sleeps more than Sean (2nd Captain of the Lair; a.k.a. Persian), he can adapt to any situation. Besides, he could use a little more exercise. And Warvus won't goof off; he'll want the job done as efficiently as possible, so he can get back to his rutaya and naps.
The only member of the Clan that was absent was Tara (2nd General of the Swarm; a.k.a. Tarantula). While Tara had a quick wit and was still an amazing fighter, Tara was getting old. Fauna had long ago decided that she would promote competition between her followers by allowing them to design and wear clothes as outrageous or simple as they desired. Fauna once confided in M Butterfly that she rathered they spend their time competing without sabotaging each other's missions through fashion, than their wearing uniforms that would make them have lower morale.
Fauna actually cared about her followers, in her own sick, twisted way. They obeyed without question and looked to her for guidance. But the way she cared for them wasn't maternal, more like a child caring for a pet. And she decided that since Tara was too old to take everyday tasks, her skills as a seamstress could be used to help the Clans. Everyone would sketch the designs on paper, and Tara would combine her sewing skills, creativity, Evolite technology, and bits of magic to create ensembles that fitted that person's style perfectly. And with the upcoming arrival to their new destination, demand was going up. For everyone wanted new clothes that would shout out their individualism, but also ones that would fit in with the victims. We'll be wolves in sheep's clothing. So obviously Tara was excused from this meeting. Besides, with her web of informants, she'll know more than most of the people in the room.
The Monarch let his eyes linger on the one other actively listening member of the Clan. Annie (6th Captain of the Swarm; a.k.a. Ant). Such beautiful, sparkling black eyes. And that lithe figure. But she is so serious. I would love to make a smile grace that face of pure beauty. Stop it, you old romantic. She doesn't date. That is a fact. But how I would love to take her gliding. Just the two of us and the wind blowing in our faces, all our troubles too far to reach us. That would be bliss. But I can't. First off, she isn't interested. Secondly, if I start making romantic liaisons, people like Vickie (5th General of the Den; a.k.a. Vixen) would try to use me. Third, Fauna could very well disapprove of the liaison, since I am one of her more exclusive elite Colonels. And knowing Fauna, she'd set a persecution on Annie. The jealous whore. Cause she could never persecute me, I'm one of her favorites, and her elite are too hard to replace. Plus, there would be too many awkward moments, like when she eliminated the Clan of the Apes. And fourthly, Annie isn't interested. At least I can admire her from afar, without having to become jealous of every relationship she develops.
The Monarch Butterfly then announced, "Lunch is over. I have decided that for our first try, Warvus will be the future seeker and collector, while Natalie oversees. Natalie, feel free to pick out any Petty Minion of your choice for Warvus. And Warvus, go visit the second inventors' sorority for the devices you'll need." The Monarch paused long enough to scribble a few notes. "These are to verify your requests for Petty Minions. And these are your boarding passes, to show you have permission to leave and enter the ship. Here is a permit to allow you to access Fauna's phuter spray, Bright Fate Dimmer, and the map of potential victims. Those codings on the bottom are the passwords required to use these devices. And here is a note for Tara to tell her to put your requests for new costumes a priority." The Monarch looked smug at the faces some people were making. Either they had expected themselves to get the job, or someone of higher ranking than Warvus. All Natalie had to do was remain his anchor to the ship, so he could request teleportation of himself, devices, Petty Minions, or just advice. This was Warvus's chance to prove himself worthy of being a member of the Clan. "Everyone is dismissed. I recommend you go to your own quarters and get some rest." The Monarch then walked over to the doorless entryway and made a small portal for everyone to leave the War Room. He closed it when he thought everyone had left, and sat down lied down on the couch to do some internal reflection.
But a moment later, he realized he wasn't alone. He shot up when he saw something out of his peripheral vision. "Colonel Monarch Butterfly, I believe you made a good choice for this mission." The Monarch Butterfly turned to see it was Annie.
Annie was nervous, but she thought that the Monarch's wise decisions deserved praise. It was only the right thing to do. She had stayed behind, for she didn't want anyone teasing her for being a sycophant. She stared at her perfectly tended red nails. For some reason, Annie favored red and black. But she was also a perfectionist. She felt vulnerable if something was out of place, or not quite exactly as it should be. She knew it was a defense, to hide her constant fear. There were only three people she felt safe with: Tara; Leika, Annie's personal Genoikan servant; and the Monarch Butterfly. Tara was like a grandmother to her, caring but stern. And Leika was like a little sister, someone to talk with and enjoy each other's company, but hard to relate to. And the Monarch Butterfly…
The Monarch is everything I dream of. Dutiful, independent, strong, compassionate, fair. And absolutely gorgeous. But I want to know the secret. Is the Monarch male or female? I'm curious, cause it will help me to figure out my own attractions. No one else makes me forget that I am always potential prey. I want to run my fingers through that messy tangle of shoulder length hair. Such beautiful hair deserves to be presented at its best.
The Monarch responded to her earlier comment with, "I'm glad such a lovely damsel finds this old man's mind hasn't gone senile." He doesn't look old. But then again, he looks the same as when I first saw him on Bona Dea. Wait a second. Did I hear him let his guard down and admit he is male? This is great. But was it a fluke? Or does the Monarch, I mean he, trust me enough to know that secret. I've got to be cautious with this. I don't want him angry that I caught that detail if it was an error. It would be easier to think if my heart wasn't pounding in my ears. "You don't look old." "Maybe compared to that witch Fauna. Er… don't tell anyone I said that." "Only if I wanted to get you in trouble. Which I don't. But what is with the resentment towards our glorified leader?" Monarch smiled at her. She felt her knees become jello and her heart melt. A smile, solely for me. She blushed while she smiled back.
Is my dear Annie nervous? But oh my many Creators, she is smiling at me. And I brought about that smile. I guess she realizes that while I am loyal to Fauna, I despise her pettiness at times. Wonder if Annie realizes the full extent of my relationship with the Whore? She might be clever enough to put two and two, but she is so refreshingly naïve and innocent. "Basically, Fauna and I have a combination of a love-hate, teacher-student relationship. It benefits us both, and she confides in me, while I get to ask certain favors. Basically, I'm bound to her in a non-romantic way in something that is suppose to be intimate, but I have her ear like no one else. Plus, I'm probably the only one, even among her Colonels, that can call her a whore, and not have to worry about persecution or some other type of punishment."
Annie's elation dropped. I kind of had a feeling that he was involved with someone, and it makes sense that it would be Fauna. Damn it, if I were in her place, I'd probably have the same arrangement. But he seethes resentment for Fauna. I guess, that even if he did come to care about me, Fauna would always be an obstacle. "Well, I've got to say Monarch Butterfly…" He interrupted, but used a soft voice, "Please, call me M. Monarch Butterfly is excessively formal. Besides, I've burdened you with much of my personal life. I apologize. It is just that you are so easy to talk to. And…" Annie was pleased. If she couldn't have him in a romantic way, she'd have him as a friend. It was better than nothing. And he trusted her. She knew then that it wasn't a slip, him revealing the most-gossiped-about secret he has. "I've got to say that you are adept at remaining loyal to both your duties and yourself. And you were saying?"
"And Annie, I trust you," he confirmed. I can't let her know I feel more deeply than a friend. Even if by some off chance she learned to return my feelings, I will not set Fauna's wrath on anyone, least of all Annie. That is another way Fauna has a hold over me, besides this damn armband. The drugs that it is secreting better not have any side effects. I think I'll ask some of the Crew members about it in the third inventors' sorority. It looks like their handy work. At least this new hold over me is one she isn't aware of. I hope. "Annie, I have held you here long enough. I think it is time for me to let you go on your way." He reluctantly opened up the portal again and watched her walk out.
When he had closed the portal again, he sat down on the couch. He looked up at the corner of the ceiling and glared. Damn you, Fauna. For there in the corner was one of Fauna's cameras. She had them all over the ship, in every room. Except the sleeping quarters and bathing pools. She thought that if anyone found out she had records of those tapes, that the thought of using them for blackmail of who was with who and for pornographic purposes would be too tempting for many of her followers to resist. But every public room had cameras. That was how she found out the traitorous intentions of the Clan of the Apes. Even though it included Colonel Guerilla's execution, she didn't hesitate. For as she often preached, "A traitorous elite is worse than no elite."
Raye was doing the symbols of the universe as she was chanting them in her mind. Why won't the sacred fire show me anything? Just as Raye was about to give up, she saw something.
***
It was 5 points of light in the shape of a star. She saw them get closer and form a bright light. But then she saw one of the points being pulled away by a large orb. A moon? As the dot was dragged away, the other points couldn't converge again to give off the bright light. As the isolated dot got farther away, it started building up a fog, a fog that grew as it came closer to the 'moon'.
***
The vision stopped there, but it replayed twice more. What could this mean? This is big. Chad then walked in. He stuttered as he spoke. Fortunately for him, Raye was too deep in thought to notice his infatuation with her. "Raye, Grandpa wants you to get a few more Success fortunes out of the back." Raye responded, "Chad, can't you do it? I've got to meet some friends, and there is no way I can manage to change into the priestess outfit and back, get the fortunes, and run over the park in time. Please Chad!" and Raye got to the closest thing to begging that she gets to. Chad's heart was wrenched by that plead. "I would Raye, except I can't tell the difference between the Good Luck charms, Love charms, and the Forgiveness charms." As Raye was about to speak, Chad held up his hand to stop her. "And don't bother trying to explain them to me. You've tried too many times and failed. You grab the charms, and I'll bring them to grandpa and give you a ride in my car."
Raye hesitated, before responding. He is being nice about this. Why? He is like a puppy, I yell at him and he comes back for more. But do I trust myself not to get attached if I spend a car ride alone with him? Best to not test it. "That would be great, but I don't think that so-called car is safe." She was about to go on, when she heard Grandpa's gong which rang every hour. It meant it was 5:00. Damn it. This reading is too important to be delayed. "However, I need to really get going." She then ran off. She stopped at the doorway to say thanks, but Chad had already left for his car keys. Raye was kind of disappointed, but shook it off. She ran into the storage room, and had to search through the boxes. I need to remember to tell Grandpa we need to get organized. This is ridiculous. Finally Raye found the charms. She then ran to drop them off at the booth in front of the temple.
When Raye got there, she was startled to find someone waiting. He was staring up at the sky. He had light green hair that was tied in a tight ponytail at the nape of his neck. When the man who appeared to be in his early forties turned around to face her, she saw a pair of beautiful brown eyes. The rest of his face was fairly plain, but it was those eyes that made him look so enchanting. He wore a black shirt and a pair of khaki slacks with a brown leather belt to hold it. While he looked muscular and strong, the slight pudge in his belly revealed he was out of shape. A pair of oversized running shoes ruined his whole casual businessman look. He smiled warmly, if a bit tired, at her. "Those must be the Success charms I asked for. I'm Warvus, what is your name?" "Raye. And I must tell you, you picked a good place to get reliable Success charms." He nodded knowingly at her self-promoting comments. "How much are these?" After Warvus paid and was satisfied, he had another query. "By any chance, do you know where this great little coffee shop called the Java Hut is located?" Raye thought for a second. Isn't that the place we went for lunch earlier? It took a moment for Raye to remember and said. "Yes. Actually, I was there only a few hours ago. You see that bus stop down by the street?" At his nod she continued, "You wait for the 214 bus to come, and get off at the 5th stop. You then walk a block north, and at the corner you'll find it." "Thank you so much." "Sure. Anytime." With that Raye sprinted to Chad's car.
Warvus on the other hand walked down the steps of the Cherry Hill temple, until he came by the bus stop. He glanced over both shoulders, and then pulled out a papyrus-like scroll. He ran his finger along it, and then nodded his head confirming his thoughts. He rolled it back up and stuck it in his pocket. He took out his purchases and held them in his hand, and decided to also stick them in his pocket. Just as he was about to, a woman called out, "Why Beetle, what are those in your hand?"
He turned around slowly to see Natalie (5th of the Swarm Generals; a.k.a. Snail) looking disapprovingly at him. "Natalie, you are suppose to stay on the ship, and be my anchor. Remember?" She shook her head, "I'm suppose to oversee your work. And here I see you purchasing little pieces of paper. Beetle, I knew you were an idiot, but here you are being a superstitious idiot. Hand them over." Warvus glared and looked like he was going to argue, but handed the charms over. "Glad you at least learned not to argue with a superior, right 7th Captain Beetle of the Swarm. Don't forget, that while I am the lowest ranked General, you my pitiful Warvus, are the lowest ranking Captain." And with that she put the charms so that way the writing faced her palms. When she lifted them up, she showed how both sides had become blank. Then she ripped them up and grinned. "Aren't you going to say anything?"
Warvus emptied out his pockets, finding nothing except the scroll, he looked at his hands and said, "You owe me a dollar and I need it now, since you just ripped up my bus pass, and I spent all my money on those Success charms. So actually, you owe me twenty-one. But for now, I'll only ask for the dollar. Also the passwords to the devices have been destroyed, so I also expect you to get new copies of them for me. And I would love to see both Fauna's and the Monarch Butterfly's faces if they found out you caused a delay in our mission."
Natalie was slow to react. Then she made a mufled high pitch scream. She sketched a symbol in the sky with what looked like a guitar pick. Once she was done with the sketch, a vague image of a man behind a control panel appeared. Natalie muttered something in the Evolite language. The man in the sky nodded his head and 2 bills came out of the image as the man faded away, for a moment leaving the sketch in the sky. "Here is your money. I'm heading back. Take as long as you like, but get it done today. The Crew would hate to have to leave you here overnight," she added bitter sweetly. She walked to the wall and leaned back, falling through it. Literally.
How in Fauna's name did that scatterbrained ditz get to become a general? She is too slow to come up with strategies, arrogant, and doesn't think things through. Ugh! And I am going to have a hard time completing this mission if she keeps getting in the way. And I liked those charms. They were suppose to be able to influence events in our favor. Besides, they would remind me of that sweet princess at the temple. Not that I am infatuated, just charmed by her personality. If it weren't that us making allies out of the inhabitants was looked down upon, she would make a nice friend. Oh well. And Warvus noticed that the bus was coming, so got out the dollar bill. I'm just glad Natalie doesn't have the wit to request for forged money. Otherwise she might have indulged in that type of revenge. Not that I would have. No. Never on something this stupid. I realize that vengeance should only be taken on those that realize their crimes, and don't regret it.
Lita was the first to see Raye arrive the same time as the scouts' feline leaders. With Raye, Luna, and Artemis's arrivals, everyone was there. The scouts were just hanging out, while Amara and Michelle were taking this meeting seriously. "So Raye, did you get a chance to perform a fire reading?" Amy inquired. Raye hesitated before responding. "Yes." Michelle asked, "Did you see anything?" "Yes." Amara was getting impatient with Raye's evasive behavior. "Just tell us what you saw and what it means!"
Raye explained her vision, taking care to point out that it showed itself three times in a row, each time exactly the same. "Guys, I honestly have no idea what it means? But I know it is important." Mina suggested, "Maybe you dreamed it. Wouldn't the Sacred Fire have been more specific?" "I don't think it is that easy to rationalize the vision, Mina. It wasn't that I just saw this in the fire, I was in a trance." "So it couldn't have been trick of light," Amy put in. Luna put in, "Raye's visions have been accurate in the past. That is not what we need to discuss. We need to figure out what that vision means." "Exactly. We know that there is a significance in there being five points of lights, right?" Amara asked. Everyone nodded. Artemis added, "And there is importance in that they are in a star shape too." "And we know that the 5 work strongly together, but when one is taken away, the team is vulnerable," Amy put in, while typing on her computer.
Lita mentioned, "I have a theory." When everyone gave her their full attention, she continued. "Well, there are five inner scouts. Myself, Venus, Mercury, Mars and Serena. Together we can create Planet Power Attack, and Scout Teleportation. But we wouldn't be able to do this without Serena. She is our strongest link." Everyone sat in contemplation. Mina put in, "That does seem to have truth in it. And there is a large orb, probably a moon. And since Serena is Sailor Moon…" Serena contributed, "This could be either the Moon kingdom, Nemesis, the Dark Moon, or some other moon that is drawing me in." Amy put in, "While that is a good theory, we still don't have a way of justifying the fog or the star shape. I think we should keep it in mind, but not act as if that is our actual situation." "My thoughts exactly. We should focus on figuring out what to do about our new enemy," responded Artemis.
Soon everyone was talking about what their new enemy was possibly after. Mina kept the thought that it is ridiculous to plan for an enemy they have yet to see to themselves. Amara and Michelle watched everyone discuss this. They were impressed, that the group of goofballs were actually being serious and constructive. I know that they have good intentions, and they make a good team. But they aren't fighters at heart. They have yet to accept that sometimes duty takes precedence over everything else. And they are far too weak to accomplish this. We just need their extra power, to give us an edge. While Serena is powerful as Sailor Moon, she doesn't tap into her full powers until she is pushed to no other option. And that will not be good enough. Not for this mission. Amara looked over at her cousin, who appeared to not have noticed her internal reflection. Amara then looked over at Luna and Artemis. And I still can't accept that they look to a pair of cats as mentors. While the two cats are able to talk, and appear intelligent, it is ludicrous to listen to a pair of pets. And the pets were never fighters either.
Amara stood up. "While this vision is enlightening, talking about our enemies isn't going to stop them. We need action." Michelle for once argued, "It is difficult for action, when the enemy hasn't even made an appearance." Amara was surprised; Michelle never argued with her. Never. Soon it seemed that the scouts were divided. Lita and Raye and Artemis sided with Amara. Amy, Serena, Mina and Luna agreed with Michelle. "We should discuss this further in the morning. We still haven't had Darien and Rini's opinions yet. Nor Pluto or Saturn," Luna suggested. Everyone agreed. "Michelle and I shall wake up Saturn on Wednesday. I have big exams tomorrow and Tuesday, and a chem Lab after school," Amara said. Luna added, "I should go along. The Luna Mind-meld can make it easier on her." All the scouts' gazes looked distant as they remembered their sole experience with the Luna Mind-meld. Amara looked hesitant, but Michelle nodded. "We've got business to attend to. We'll contact you guys if we need anything. See ya," Michelle said. With that, Amara and Michelle gracefully slipped away.
All of a sudden, Serena realized something and exclaimed, "Oh no. I lost my brooch!" Mina demanded, "Please tell me it wasn't your Sailor Moon brooch!" "I don't know how it happened," Serena whined. "How could you be so careless?" Raye demanded. "There's no use in waiting Serena. We'll just have to retrace your steps. When did you last see it?" Luna queried. "This morning. I know I had it when we were at the temple. And I got my hair caught in it at the bus-stop outside the temple." "What about when we were at the coffee shop?" Lita pointed out. "I don't know…" "And don't forget that you could have lost it when you bumped into Amara," Mina pointed out. "I suggest we find it soon. Last time you lost it, Kaorinite discovered you were Sailor Moon. And before that, Rini took it to fight against Rubeus. So, following this pattern, there is a high possibility that our new enemy has arrived," Amy calculated. It took only a moment longer for them to take off. Artemis was the only one to not run off to the coffee shop, for he took it upon himself to watch over Neptune and Uranus. He had a feeling they might be withholding key information from the scouts. Without the others noticing, he scurried off to Amara and Michelle's apartment.
Warvus was enjoying the little coffee shop know as the Java Hut. It wasn't particularly elaborate when it came to ornaments. But it felt comfortable and safe. The walls were a marbleized white, black and forest green swirl and the floor alternated black and white tiles. During the day, the majority of the light came from the sun, but once it came to evening there were low hung lamps from the ceiling, and one small one at each table. Each of the workers had either red and green plaid skirts or pants. All around, it was an informal atmosphere. In the corners, there were college students studying, or groups of young comrades meeting up before a night of youthful mischief. Warvus was the oldest customer within the store. When the waitress comes, I'll ask for some herbal tea. Maybe it will be as good as the brew the Genoikan's favor.
Warvus discovered that the tea turned out to be delightfully refreshing. He glanced at the clock. 7:30. Hmm. Most of the other customers have left. Now would be the optimal moment to start working on the target. Warvus then stolled over to the counter and requested to speak with the manager. "Hold on, I'll get Dani. She's out back making more." A moment later, the manager appeared. "You wanted to see me?" she inquired. Warvus said, "If it wouldn't be too much trouble. I say, this brew you've made is marvelous. Would you mind sitting down with me to discuss it…" "Danielle. Danielle Richards. And, it wouldn't hurt to spare a few moments to have a real conversation." And with that, Dani led the way to a table that was in the corner, but within view of the rest of the shop. Warvus noticed a beautiful heartshaped jeweled object on the floor, and discreetly picked it up. After all, he could probably pawn it for something.
Soon the two of them were having an engrossing conversation about what ingredients to use, what to do to make the shop more enjoyable, etc. Warvus was enjoying the conversation. She is very dedicated to her shop. Not just the shop, the people and what it represents. A non-contreversial hangout for the younger generation. She sees it as a haven from the pressures of the outside world, without making it a faux solution to problems. But she seems to have little life outside the coffee shop. She would have made a great minister or such. She cares about the inner being that everyone possesses, putting her own needs last. She should be ready to take the bait. So Warvus wove this story how he was only going to be here until tomorrow afternoon, and he had a previous arrangement with an old acquaintance. But he insisted on seeing her again at closing time, 11:00. There. No one will be around then. If I set my borrowed illusions right, no one will know I even exist. With that last thought, Warvus strolled out to make sure that Natalie had a petty minion ready.
"Serena! Slow down. Your legs are ten times the length of mine," Luna gasped as she strived to keep up with Serena. Everyone of the scouts had been sent off to check out an area that they visited today, searching for Serena's brooch. Raye went to the temple, Lita the park, Amy the bus and the stops they took earlier that day, Mina the studio, and Serena the street she ran into Amara and Michelle. But no one had any luck. It came to that they all decided to meet up at the Java Hut. Everyone had a strange feeling about it. Serena was the first to arrive. The lights were off in the store, but there was a strange glow as Serena heard a scream of anguish. Luna ran inside the broken door, and only found a young woman on the floor passed out with a weird mist rising from her body. Isn't she the manager here?
A moment later she noticed a man with light green hair that was tied in a tight ponytail at the nape of his neck. He appeared to be his early forties with a plain face set with two beautiful brown eyes. While he looked muscular and strong, the slight pudge in his belly revealed he was out of shape. He wore a solid piece of obsidian armor that covered his torso; the armor fitted the shape of the front of his body perfectly, but on the back it was more domed shape. Around his neck was a scarlet cape as long as his armor that was split down the center and rounded at the bottom. On his legs were dark purple spandex pants that had something that is best described as a pair of loose chain mail pants that just reached his ankles over them. In his hair was a wooden helmet that had what looked like a twig that branched into two sticking straight up, giving the appearance of antennas. The armor didn't cover his powerful arms, where on the left bicept was a tattoo of a red lady bug with eight spots.
His outfit makes him look like a bug. Bulging out of his pocket was the Sailor Moon brooch . Luna swiped it and gave it to Serena. Before Luna could finish saying, "Don't use that transformation…" Serena had yelled out "Moon Cosmic Dream Action!" "cause it is useless without Pegasus. Oh nevermind, just get going." And Sailor Moon ran into the coffee shop.
The man was putting away the phuter spray by making it vanish back to the ship by one of the minute transport chips he'd been given. He then conjured up the Bright Fate Dimmer, and was looking in his pockets for the passwords. He made a low pitched half buzzing, half growling noise. He turned around to look back at Dani, when he spotted the new arrival. "I'd advise you to step back from her. I am in the middle of something that doesn't involve you." "No way sleaze bag. I will not let you harm innocent people. I am the defender of love and justice. I am Sailor Moon. And in the name of the moon, I shall punish you." The man started laughing. "Sorry. I'm Beetle, 7th Captain of the Clan of the Swarm. It is just that it is hilarious that a child in a ridiculous outfit like that is threatening me, when how does she know that I wasn't defending myself against her," indicating Dani. Beetle continued, "So, if you don't mind, please leave and let me finish my mission."
With that said, Beetle turned towards the back wall and held out his own guitar pick shaped item. He drew an odd symbol in the air and when he was done with the sketch, a vague image of a woman behind a control panel appeared. Beetle now switched to the Evolite language, so Sailor Moon had no idea what was being said. "Connect me with Natalie." The woman nodded, and punched a few keys in her computer. "I'm sorry, but Snail, 5th of the Swarm Generals, has retired for the night." Beetle swore, so that even Sailor Moon could tell he was upset. He kept his anger from sneaking into his voice as he spoke with the Crew member, for she had nothing to do his frustration. But his scowl wouldn't be dropped. "Since you are not authorized to collect the passwords for me, do you know if Snail has at least left a Petty Minion in the boarding room." The female crew member gave him a hopeful look as she paged one of the technicians in the boarding room. She looked saddened as she responded, "I'm sorry Beetle, but she hasn't." Beetle quickly thought of the best way to handle this, shooing the Sailor girl away from Dani when she attempted to creep closer.
He finally resolved what to do about his predicament. "Please send a messenger straight to the Colonel Monarch Butterfly. Tell the Colonel about Snail's shirking her duties. That she has set back the mission by playing childish tricks, by failing to get supplies that an overseer is responsible for, and having a lack of interest in what her team is doing. And add a note that I will speak about the specifics later, in person. You got all that?" The Crew member, who had furiously been scribbling notes nodded and smiled. "Yes sir. Anything else?" "I'd appreciate you having the boarding room ready for an arrival. I am sending off the rest of my supplies prior to my arrival, to save the toll on my reserves. Also, please have Peons ready my room for myself to bathe and take a nap as soon as I have some vintage wine and rutaya. And I will need to schedule an appointment to have more of the language chips injection. I'll be on my way in a minute or two." "Certainly. And I'm sorry that Snail has failed to be a worthy overseer." Before the Beetle could thank her, the image of the woman faded away, for a moment leaving the sketch in the sky. Beetle turned back to Sailor Moon, who was pouting over Dani. Both of them seem to be such sweet girls. Thanks to the language chips running through his veins, Beetle returned to speaking the local language.
"Well, Sailor Moon. You are in luck. While I wouldn't like hurting you in the the first place, there is no need to fight. My acquaintance had been a flake, so I am unable to fulfill my mission. Hence, Dani shall return to normal. But I must warn you, while I see you as a sweet young girl attempting to be heroic," and Sailor Moon started a futile protest that was interrupted, "many of members of the Evolites will find you to be a pest, that has to be squashed. Both within my Clan, and among the others. So I am asking you for your sake to stay out of the Evolites' way." He walked past Sailor Moon, and gave a fatherly kiss to Dani on her hand and waved fairwell as the mist was absorbed back into Dani. "May the night be yours, my tea brewer." With that said, Beetle jumped into the air, his cape moving about as if it were wings, and vanished. Sailor Moon was by Dani's side in moments. She checked her pulse, breathing, and temperature. When Sailor Moon was satisfied with Dani's likelihood of recovery, she spared a moment to wonder about the new enemy she had just met. We were warned how they are so terrible. But he doesn't seem that bad, just a little misguided. In fact, he was almost nice…
