Solar Revolution Notes
Chapter Eleven: Mnemonsyne Part 1
- As mentioned beforehand, this chapter was started a year ago. And actually, for at least the past six months, it was almost the length this installment is. For I while, I had decided that since it has been so long since I've posted a new chapter, I'd decided to make this temporarily a two part chapter. Both parts were going to eventually be put together, making one complete eleventh chapter. However, once I started writing Part 2, I realized that both halves were going to be substantial enough to stand on their own. Hence, I decided to make Part 2 its own chapter, Chapter 12. I warned you this might happen
- I was in a sadistic mood when I started writing Greg's inhumane conditions. Actually, I hadn't initially been in a writing mood when I started it, but sometimes when I just do descriptive stuff I can get into, I sink into my writing zone. I'm hoping it imparts the full extent of the devastation being caused because of Greg's abduction. If not, I'll settle for the reader getting good imagery from it.
- I realize the conversation at the temple didn't cover everything it should have. But in my defense, it is hard having a complex conversation with so many people without showing favoritism. If it were only a two character dialogue, it would be signficantly easier. Don't worry, all the needed discussions will eventually occur, most of them in the next chapter actually... But these types of conversations are a large part of why it takes me forever to write a chapter.
- My sadistic streak was still going on when I decided to have Celeste have problems with the Scriptures. But it did force me to turn the conversation on finding the Great Scribe, which had to happen this chapter. Seriously, it couldn't wait any longer.
- As you've probably have noticed, I don't like to throw something in just for the hell of it. Or to be more accurate, when I do, I make it more embedded in the plot than normal spontaneity would demand. I'm referring to having Rini's school project continue to be mentioned. Yeah, initially it was something that just randomly happened to evolve. But I'm not letting it be a scene that doesn't serve any purpose whatsoever; hence it leads to a couple of fun incidents (for me at least) where Rini is being vexed by her project's partners getting in the way of the project and her being able to participate in senshi doings. I'm hoping what I just wrote is somewhat coherent, but if not, I don't know how to make my thoughts on the subject any more linear.
- I had intended for some time for Natalie and Vana to become an item. And I wanted to get it done before it got pushed aside to the back burner. I don't feel any fondness towards either character, but they do prove a point of mine. Love doesn't make sense. Two petty and selfish individuals manage to gain a little compassion because they fall in love. It's not as if one is rubbing off on the other in this case. But I like the fact that I managed to make this point. Also, the fact that we know that Natalie will take revenge on Warvus. Mwahahaha
- Also there was some weird motivation in Vana completely remaking Natalie's face. Promise not to laugh at my reason. It is because I had initially drawn this one drawing of Natalie, but I didn't particularly like it. But since I'm mid-level skill (meaning I don't have artistic talent, but my drawings aren't horrible), I couldn't bring myself to trash it. Anyway, several months later I tried redrawing the picture, and I came up with a different look that I liked so much better. Hence, why Natalie looks so different after Vana's ministrations. It was my way of justifying eventually scanning both pictures even though they look drastically different.
- What are Fauna's reason for using Derek in her mysterious machines? Her real reason, and not the one she gives Derek. It is... can't tell you. Trust me, it will be cool and will make sense. And actually, you'll find out next chapter.
- Okay, I'm assuming you surmised that Raye's vision showed various Evolites. I'm hoping my hints for each Evolite were the correct midrange of subtle and blatant. Come on, I tried leaving some hint of what their Field Name was in each blurb. Anyway, there is an actual reason for these specific Evolites being shown. Remember how a while back, Celeste came to the conclusion that some Evolites are redeemable? Well, the ones shown were the ones who have the potential of becoming one of the good guys. Yes, this kinda spoils the vision's mysteriousness, but it was a calculated risk.
- Obviously the reason this chapter is known as Mnemonsyne is because it is the one where the Great Scribe is finally discovered, told her identity, and etc. Also, because it also means memory, I wanted Molly to remember Nephlyte. Seriously, if you think about it, all throughout the end of the 1st season, she was still hung up over him. However, since there was the whole reincarnation thing going on after the final fight, in the second season she obviously had no memory of a present that had/hadn't occurred. Honestly, I loved the whole Molly and Nephlyte dynamic. Then again, he was my favorite villain in the 1st season. But I thought he should be remembered, and not forgotten for all of the ages.
- Anyway, I'm really hoping you listened to the song "I May Know The Word" by Natalie Merchant. I mean this more so than most of my songs. For the most part, every other song is something that is supplemental that I think fits that scene, after the fact.. However, the song "I May Know The Word" played a big part in inspiring the whole Great Scribe thing. It was so long ago since the idea was first conceived that I don't remember to how large of an extent it inspired my ideas, but I do know it was a significant amount. I won't swear on this, but it might have inspired the Scribes in the first place. Hmm... I can't remember. Sure a few other songs inspired little incidents, but none inspired something on this grand of a scale. But if there is one song that you listen to while reading any section of my story, make it this one.
- Also, I'm hoping my playing around with the fonts and formats at appropriate moments was beneficial versus a hindrance towards your reading experience.
- Advice I decided to repeat in every one of my notes here on out: pay attention to the details if you want to guess my foreshadowings. I rarely put in a detail just for the hell of it, though that is occasionally fun, I don't have the time to waste on superfluous minute aspects. So if you read something and it seems like it has been mentioned before, there is a good likelihood it was. There are many reoccurences. On that note, I do plan on tying up some loose ends I left in the beginning, such as what is with Amara and Michelle's seemingly random mentioning of their benefactor. Things really important in the long run are going to be periodically brought up again.
- So after hearing my wise words, and marvelous opinions, outside of the context of the story, I hopefully leave you longing for more of my quick wit and humor. Now then, I've just spent 5 1/2 hours on the computer and it is 4:35 AM. So I'm now going to head off to my room and roam around the realm of Morpheus.
Hope you enjoyed this episode. Sorry this episode took forever. I'm even sorrier it turned out so long. Schoolwork and applications have been an unpleasant, time-consuming experience. Actually, that was a year ago. Yes, I've been working on this episode for a year. Anyway, feedback continues to be welcomed, so please E-mail me at [email protected]. Keep reading. =^D
