| The World's Youngest Mother Ned These days it seems everyone is harking on about teen pregnancies and kids growing up too fast. But the youngest ever mother, at 5 years old, actually gave birth way back in 1939. Lina was living in the village of Ticrapo in the Peruvian Andes, when her parents, thinking she had a large abdominal tumour, walked to the hospital in the Pisco after shamans couldnt cure their daughter. About a month later, when she was five years, seven months and 21 days old, she gave birth by Caesaeran section on May 14th of 1939 in Lima (the day of mothers day that year), where doctors had transferred her. . She named her 6 pound son Gerado, after Dr. Grado Lozada |

| who was the head doctor in Pisco, and her father was jailed for rape, although he was later let ago after Lina could not give precise answers and the identity of Gerados father was never found. Doctors in Peru reported that Lina had begun menstruating at age 3, and had fully undergone early puberty, now a recognised medical condition. Doctors couldnt believe their eyes, when after an Xray, it was confirmed that she was pregnant. Gerado was just like a normal child, and its hard to believe that such a small child gave birth to a healthy son. He was raised as her brother and Lina showed more interest in playing with dolls than her child. Gerado was told when he was 10 that his sister was really his mother, and died in 1979 when he was 30. Lina was promised good medical and financial care by the Government, but this never came. She married a man called Raul Jurado, and they had a son, who now lives in Mexico in 1972, 33 years after Gerados birth. Lina and her husband live in a poor area of Lima, known as Little Chicago and after a book was published about Linas amazing story in 2002 the couple have still refused to give media interviews despite their poverty. | |||||||
