Celebrity Connections
1950s Clothes
Ned

One day earlier this year people all over the country walked into their favourite clothes shop to find that it had mysteriously gone back in time. There were polka dots, pastels and pumps everywhere, not only in the windows and rails of the shops but on most of the women on the street. It seems the 50s revival of a few years ago didnt like going away and so it came back with a vengeance this summer.
Vintage clothing has seen a huge boom in the last few years, and because every celebrity from London to LA is wearing it prices have shot up in vintage shops. But the highstreet shops now have loads of 50s looks at cheap prices. Why do you need to spend 150 on a 1953 original skirt when you can get a 30 repo from Topshop? Oasis have taken this one step further by actually reproducing dresses and their fabrics found in vintage shops or flea markets. And the good thing is that the 50s look can be worn in many different ways so that you dont look like a Grease extra. Here are some of the looks you can create with the current wave of 50s clothing:

Screen Siren
This is great for an evening. Think sleek dresses worthy of the Oscars if you want to look like a 50s film star.
The clothes: Long dresses with whatever cut suits you. Go for midnight blue, black or red to really make an entrance.
The makeup: Simple, clean cut and striking. Try red lips and black mascara and eyeliner.
Where to shop: Try classy high street shops which may have some 50s influences at the moment. For accessories look for glittery faux diamonds in second hand shops, it's also worth having a rumage through the boxes in antiques shops or vintage shops, make sure you wash anything like earrings though.

Pastel Princess
Pastels are making a nice comeback, and for summery daytime wear nothing beats them.
The clothes: Try pedal pushers or circle skirts which are quite cheap at high street shops like New Look and Topshop.
The makeup: Keep lips pinky and eyes lilac, blue, pink or white.
Where to shop: High street shops. Get brightly coloured plastic accesories from the same shops, they're only a few quid each.

Summer Dancer
For school formal dances, proms and the like, what's better than a big fairytale style dress to make an entrance.
The clothes: Go to somewhere like a department store of Monsoon for a pastel coloured big evening dress. It's tempting to wear nice high pointy shoes but who's gonna see them, and you don't want to cripple your feet and make to sit down all night for nothing.
The makeup: Whatever you fancy as long as it's not too over the top. Keep it simple because there's nothing worse than melting makeup on a summer night.
Where to shop: Again the high street is your best friend, especially if there's a sale on. You could always go for a vintage shop if you want to splash out and get a one of kind original, but these can have rips or stains and you'd need to make a pretty standard body to find something that'll look good.
