| How to be a Good Shopper Tomety Well, Im back this month, and as you can see Ive bought a few articles along with me. This is advice for all you bad customers a nice and easy check list to think of every time you go to purchase something from a shop. Because there are some she devils out there when it comes to the end of their browsing fest. Trust me! As I now work in retail in a rather well respected nationwide store, Ive had the pleasure of meeting some extremely awful customers. Within the department I work (photos), we encounter a lot of mistakes, which are not always our fault but as we are the face that greet the public, we are met with the abuse and bad karma that customers give us. So to all you whingers and unhappy peeps out there, here is the 5 point check list that could make you a shop assistants favourite in a matter of seconds... #1 Smile! We are told to put all our troubles aside and greet the customer with a hearty HELLO! and a big toothy smile. This wears thin after 4 or 5 hours, so bear with us... Then relay either your query/ complaint or straightforward purchasing to the member of staff. Give us a chance to take in the information, and come up with a relatively helpful reply. #2 Respond nicely! Respond to our answer in a polite way, not yelling the store down, or allowing the people over the road in Dixons to hear what you are saying. We are approximately 60cm away from you, so there is no need to shout or stomp around like a chicken. #3 Listen to our explanation! We have no intention to lie to you, and the nicer customers usually get the nicest consolation. Remember, if you are good, you are rewarded! We do try to deal with your complaint/query, but we are all human and sometimes things do slip our minds. #4 Be patient! If we have to refer you to our manager or team leader, please be patient. We do try our best, but if youre extremely trying, we also become up tight and our ability to help you is automatically decreased, on purpose. (Remember buying the right shampoo/flavour of crisps/poster is NOT the most important thing in the world, you should put things in perspective if you get angry in a shop. I get people who are stressed because my shop doesnt do flannels in lilac, only plum! Ned) And #5 Be happy! Our goal is to make you happy, this is sometimes taken for granted by customers who expect the red carpet treatment every time they set foot in the store, and we do try our best to compensate you for your problems, but we do work within guideline, so handing out free items is a no no. An understanding and patient customer is more than likely to receive a better service as the member of staff will be more willing to help you. Well, there you go, a nice and easy list for you to ponder over... Happy shopping |
