Film Review: Brother Bear
Tomety

The jist of the movie centres around Kenai, the annoyingly impulsive younger brother of two of the most respected members of their tribe. All except Kenai have their totem, a mystical calling that one must forefil in order to make the transition into man. But when Kenai is presented with his, he's more than unhappy, and embarks on an adventure to prove that
his 'love' totem (in the form of a bear) will not be the reason he is considered a man.
But fate takes a turn for the worst, and his elder brother is killed while trying to rescue him from a bear. Kenai is distraught, and focuses all his attention on killing the animal that caused the death. When he finally finds her, his world changes forever, and now he is the target of someone elses aggression.
As usual, Disney have made a pretty good job and have roped in Phil Collins to do most of the soundtrack, so watch out for some Tarzan like songs along the way. Although the caption on the front of the DVD says Walt Disney Classics, I'm not sure if this qualifies for that title just yet. Its a great Sunday afternoon watch for all ages, and the two moose brothers Rutt and Tuke are amusing to watch to say the least.
Its probably one of the most colourful movies Disney have done for a while, with some brilliant scenery and a great scene where the lights from the sky touch the ground (you'll know what I mean when you see it). And of course, the Disney movie wouldnt be complete without the cuddly cute animal that you all want to take home. Koda is the orphan cub that changes Kenai's life for the better, showing him what bears are really like.
The DVD doesnt really live up to that of Finding Nemo. A single disc with a couple of games that can really only be played once. It does have a couple of music videos and the brilliant outtakes you can find with any recent Disney movie. But the best thing on there is probably the Moose commentary.
I really enjoyed the movie, but its not a true Disney classic.
I give Disney's Brother Bear: 4 out of 5
