| Final Straw by Snow Patrol Ned PFranz Ferdinand, Keane and the Scottish band Snow Patrol were th big 3 break through acts of early 2004. But unlike the other two, this is Snow Patrol's 3rd album, they just weren't noticed before. Their 3 singles from this album, the anthemic ballad Run, the slightly more upbeat Chocolate and the more rocked up Spitting Games are all lined up. They've been compared to Coldplay, but Snow Patrol have a style of |

| their own. The songs Wow and Gleaming Auction are more upbeat rock peices, whilst Grazed Knees is a beautiful ballad. Ways and Means will stick in your head for a while, with it's signiture guitar patterns and sing a long chorus. Somewhere A Clock is Ticking is a haunting song to sway to, whilst Same is quite similar but somehow manages to sound alot happier and brings up images of ends of parties. With some inventive song titles (Tiny Little Fractures and Somewhere A Clock is Ticking) and clever lyrics ("you must know that I follow you") match the varied styles of the songs and the lead singer, Gary Lightbody's, fitting voice. If you liked Run you won't find anything as powerful on here, for that you'll have to try Keane's album. But Chocolate and Spitting Games are more representative of the kinds of songs on here, although if you only half listen to the album it can seem like one song which just slows down and speeds up in different places. It's a good album, it's clear Snow Patrol would be great live because of the craftsmanship in their music, and value for money with 14 tracks! I give it 4 out of 5 |
