The Curse of Friends
Tomety

Like most people my age, I love the American sitcom Friends. Ive bought a few of the videos and would definitely buy the accompanying books that are available.
Along with most of the merchandising, in the past few years Ive had mugs, calendars,
socks, DVDs and poster books.
But the six regulars, Lisa Kudrow, Courtney Cox Arquette, Jennifer Aniston, Matt Le Blanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer all seam to have stayed in character while pursuing movie careers.
Courtney Cox Arquettes character Monica creeps in to the famous horror trilogy Scream, but it became more noticeable in the last movie than the first. I had a hard time figuring out if it was Monica Gellar portraying Gale Weathers or Courtney!
Both Matt Le Blanc and David Schwimmer have had success as movie actors, in the movies Charlies Angels and Six Days Seven Nights. Matts character Jason, the boyfriend of crime fighting angel Alex, is suprisingly like Joey Tribianni, (Friends character) and part of me was dying for him to say 'How you doin?' The sometimes-drippy Ross, played by David reappears in the rom-com Six Days Seven Nights. Harrison Ford stars along side Anne Heche who become stranded on a deserted island, leaving their loved ones behind. Davids character bears mannerisms that are remarkable like those of Ross. Mmmmm suspicious!
Lisa Kudrow plays the brilliantly sculptured Phoebe in Friends, but throughout her filmography, parts pop up that could be credited as Phoebe Bouffey instead of Lisa Kudrow. One that springs to mind is her character in Romy and Michelles High school reunion.
Mathew Perry hasnt escaped the curse either. Infact out of the six I would definitely say hes got the higher dosage. If Mathews character in the black comedy, The Whole Nine Yards, Oz, had an all over physical, I swear he would be the identical twin of Chandler Bing. Its a brilliant movie, and Mathew brings bag loads of visual comedy to the screen, but its scary to see the extent of the curse.
As we draw to a close, I hear you shout, 'What about Jennifer?'. But after watching a couple of her movies, The Good Girl, Picture Perfect and Bruce Almighty, I think she may be the only Friends star that hasnt been exposed to the highly absorbent rays that have affected her co-stars. The first ever episode of Friends has Rachel made her entrance in a wedding dress, and it takes a couple of series to see the real Rachel come out. (Much like the hyper, screechy Monica we are now familiar with). But Rachael isnt carried over into Jennifers movies, Ta Da! I think we have a winner ladies and gentlemen because Jennifer Aniston has not been diagnosed with Friendsitus. Congratulations to Mrs Pitt.
