| ALBUM: Country Grammer ARTIST: Nelly LABEL: Universal RELEASED: 2000 |
| Nelly brings us his debut album straight outta St. Louie. Nelly was a poor kid outta St. Loius. He learned hardships of street life. Nelly started out in a group high school friends in the group The St. Lunatics. They released a single which sold pretty well, but being upset about not being able to score a deal, they decided Nelly would probably have a better chance of making it by himself. The gamble paid off and Nelly has released his debut album with world-wide success. Nelly has taken hip-hop to new level. He has also brought St. Louis into the game as a major player as well as the traditional west-east coast rivalry. This album is full hard beats and rich rhymes. It's a great album. A personal favourite is Greed, Hate, Envy. The hook is pretty catchy and is pretty cool. "Greed, hate, envy but cake will do/F*** tha game don't let tha game f*** you/Follow the rules stay cool and rock jewels/Greed, hate, envy but cake will do/". Many of Nelly's songs are well known from Country Grammer, E.I and Ride Wit Me. This I find annoying having Nelly's songs getting played 24/7 on radio. The tunes get stuck in ya head and start pissing you off and you get sick of them. But I suppose it does give hip-hop more exposure. Overall a top album. Great to listen to if you want to get started in hip-hop, but is also pretty hardcore, so in other words it works both ways. RATING: **** |
