Kali d' Kai's Commentary
This isn't a love story, it's a story about boxing! This is a kick ass movie, featuring a kick ass actress in a kick ass role. Michelle Rodriguez plays Diana Guzman, as if the role isn't foreign to her? So is she just a good actress, or a women with a strong attitude packing a mean punch. I'd have to say a bit of both, since after this role Ms. Rodriguez was reportedly asked to go pro. But we are glad she didn't, because then her film career may have stopped with this movie.
If you watch GirlFight, so see Michelle Rodriguez in a liplock with Santiago Douglas, who plays her love interest, then your missing out on a good movie. Sure Diana falls in love and we all triumph when she wins her man, but my adreniline gets more pumped up when she beats the shit out of wise cracking Ray. To be honest, I didn't even like boxing until after I saw Diana and Ray sparring for her first time. I rented the movie because i liked the title. I love a girl with some fight in her :-) Out of all the movies that have been released starring Michelle Rodriguez, this is by far my favorite. And my favorite scene would have to be the opening scene when Diana jumps on top of Veronica and goes to work. |
