Temple University’s department of religion is offering an
“Introduction to Islam” in the spring semester 2004. Students participating in
this class are under the direction of Florian Pohl, M.A. A major aim of the
course is to give voice to how Muslims, in varying socio-historical contexts,
view themselves. For one of their assignments students are required to meet and
interview a person identifying herself/himself as Muslim about her/his
understanding of Islam and to put this experience into the form of a coherent
essay.
Your interview is very important for providing a sense of the contemporary living reality of religious traditions, specifically Islam, in the local communities of North America.
The data you will provide will be used for in-class purposes only and is not intended for publication or any other form of dissemination outside the classroom.
I welcome questions about the project at any time. Your participation is on a voluntary basis, and you may refuse to participate at any time without consequence or prejudice.
If you have any questions, please contact Florian Pohl at (215) 204-7973 or send your inquiry to [email protected] .
Signing your name below indicates that you have read and understand the contents of this Consent Form and that you agree to take part in this interview project. Signing this form will not waive any of your legal rights. I am grateful for your time and assistance in helping Temple’s students with their research and coursework.
