| Hank was one of my truck drivers as well as a dear friend. He died from a brain hemorrhage just before his planned retirement. I think my poem speaks for itself. The picture was scanned from the newspaper obituary. |
ODE TO HENRY Oct. 1942 - Mar. 1999 Henry was a mountain of a man. He could be hard as stone, but gentle as a lamb. He liked to debate issues present and past, And he wanted his word to always be last. Henry was a mountain of a man. He had a big heart, and he had big hands. His heart was warm, there was no room for greed, And his hands reached out to anyone in need. Henry was a mountain of a man. A Viet Nam Vet he protected our land. A truck driver by trade, he was a friend of the road; And his shoulders were wide, so he could carry heavy loads. Henry was a mountain of a man. He was loved by many throughout the land. He was protector, advisor, mentor and friend, And our memory of him will never end. |
