Life is a game
Perhaps like that of chess
where your single king
must matter above all the rest

but remember all rules
for you must heed them well
if you want to be great
and have a story to tell

The rules from "The Prince"
by Machiavelli are true
but remember you this
not all rules are for you

Depending on what you try
and what your wanting to do
you will have to pick
the rules meant for you

Universal are these
on your mind  this must dawn
that all of your pieces
are nothing more than a pawn

Some have moves fancy
the others move more
but look at your queen now
she has power galore

But even with this
don't be like a mule
for the queen has no power
without the kings rule

Place your pieces carefully
make them just like a noose
and I guarantee you
that you will not lose

Leave nothing unprotected
for it can be vital at times
and when you need them the most
they'll be as silent as mimes

do not get too attached
to any piece I tell you now
for if you do, and danger comes
that piece will only weigh down your brow

It is better left alone
let things die
these things do happen
I never said you can't cry

but keep that in private
do not let that show
such weaknesses
are better left unknown

Bear with me now
do not leave and run
for everything I say
is just about done

You can favor a piece
way above the rest
but know it's a target
for you'll use it best

Heed all these rules
and you'll be on top
In the tournament of life
Where judges aren't bought

Follow all rules
and you will be fine
Ensure you play well
and you can be divine
