Please meet Jana. Jana was born September 20th and raised the only child of Mary and Marion Drake. Her early years were in a rural setting where her usual playmates were simply her surroundings and her creative imagination. By the time Jana entered schooling her mind already was forming the rythmn of poetry that would be developed and refined continually, even to this day. Jana is happiest when her thoughts flow in rythmic patterns from her fertile mind to the written words of poetry.

Me
(written by Jana at age 12)

In essence~I am a human;
One of supposed high intellect,
Always curious,
Always searching,
Sometimes discovering.
I'm to be loved
And guided from wrong to right
Through the troubled mountain of a young life.
Yet, I am not to be pampered,
But instead set free,
So I can find my own wants,
need, loves, and myself,
With my own eyes,
My way
My pace,
and at my time.
I'm unique in my own right
Yet I am composed of all those I meet
As they are composed of a part of me.
I'm the essence of life,
That is,
Unexplainable, beautiful,
Yet unpredictable:
Sometimes cold,
Though often warm;
Anxious,
But at times with cool intellect;
Ever desiring,
ever needing,
ever loving,
ever free;
And forever me.

A Christmas gift from Jean, my friend.
