My name's Victoria. I love to write, whether it be poems, books, or stories. I also love art. I'm the creative type. Here are a few of my poems.
How Can You Just Walk Away
Piteous whines fill the dark halls
Lined with cages against the walls
You hear your footsteps tap the concrete floor
Stooping down to a chain link cage
A puppy raises its drooping head
And stares at you through sorrowful eyes
Eyes that just opened to the world
A few months ago
And already its innocence is oppressed
You glance over to the door of the office
His time is up, an unadopted puppy
You know he will be taken into the room
A whimper escapes him as you rise
And say, Not today,
How can you just walk away?
Countries far away from ours
Its not like it is here
You pass the dusty village of huts and shacks
Their cloudy eyes follow you
A mother holds a baby that is crying
She has nothing to protect it from the sun
A little boy tugs
At his mothers ragged shirt
And he sobs into it
Cries of pain and hunger
His ribs stick out under his thin dark skin
And his legs are too weak to carry him
His mother sighs for she has nothing to feed him
You know that nothing heres okay
How can you just walk away?
Its indifference that causes
Pain and suffering
What you think will be done
By somebody else
Is just another thing to put off
If someone just stopped to care
Even for a seconds time
It would make a world of difference
Pretending to be ignorant
Of the reality that surrounds you
Youre cruel
You wont stay
How can you just walk away?
A Painting
I stare at the canvas
My eyes see straight through
What others cannot always see
Dashes of color and strokes
Like a portal to another dimension
That is a painting
Like another world
Opened up for only a few to see
In the vicinity of a sqaure piece of canvas
I stare straight through
Into the world portrayed by the artist
So real as if I can touch it and not feel
the cold dried paint against my fingertips
But something more
a glimpse of the world
Locked inside
A painting
Come Back
Skidmarks still on the road
The screach of tires still ring in everyone's ears
And a scream
Dark crimson stains
Cover the ground
She's still holding on
By a feeble thread
Faith won't let go yet
The candlight slowly fades tonight
Don't go yet
Come back
We need you
Come back
Don't let go
Come back
Don't give in
Come back
The angels will have to wait
Another day
We're not ready for you to go yet
Come back
Don't let the candlelight
Go out tonight
