Fanfic Terms
Action/Adventure � Just that, a fic that is action packed and full of adventure and world save-age.
Angst � Fic that is very emotional, usually dealing with depression, hurt feelings, loss, or grief.
AR � Alternate Reality. �The Wish' is an example of alternate reality. At some point in the fic, or the entire fic itself, the author goes to another plane of existence, or changes the reality of the characters in some way.
AU � Alternate Universe. Somewhere in the story, the author strays from the Canon flow of events, or things that are well known in Jossverse.
Beta Reader � A person who you as to read your fic and check for spelling, grammar, plot flow, and characterization. Preferably done before the fic is sent out.
Buffyverse/Jossverse � The world/universe created by Joss Whedon.
Canon � Situation, events, theories that were created in the show.
Conventional Pairing � A couple that existed on the show. IE: Buffy/Angel, Spike/Drusilla, Giles/Jenny, Willow/Oz.
CPD � Convenient Plot Device. For example: a character who is being attacked and is seconds away from dying when they find a weapon within arms reach. Convenient huh?
Drabble � A short fic. Usually from 100 words to 500 words.
Fandom � The TV series, movie, book, etc. that an author writes about. This site's fandom is BtVS and AtS.
Fanon � Situation, events, theories that were created by fic writers and are often incorporated into fic. IE: Chidle, marks, claiming, mating�
Feedback � When a person gives praise or thoughts about what they liked about your fic, this can include constructive criticism as well. Feedback is what we write for.
Femslash � Female/Female pairing. IE: Willow/Tara, Willow/Kennedy
Filk � A song that's words have been changed so they are now about BtVS or AtS characters or plots.
Flame � When someone responds cruelly or disrespectfully to an author, insulting the story itself, the author, or the contents of the story.
Future fic � Fic that is set in the future beyond what is Canon-ly known.
Het � A Male/Female pairing.
Mary-Sue � An original character that has been based on the author of the fic. (For guy's it is Gary-Sue)
OC � Original Character. Someone that the author has made up and placed into the fic. This is not a Mary-Sue
POV � First person stories. Point of View
PWP � Affectionately known as Porn Without Plot, or Plot? What Plot? These fics are usually high in smut and low on dialogue and plot�obviously.
Slash � Usually known as Male/Male slash. IE: Spike/Angel, Wesley/Gunn, Giles/Ethan�
Songfic � A fic that has taken a song and placed parts or the song in its entirety in the fic and the author writes around it. The song usually has some meaning to what is going on in the fic or to the characters.
Unconventional Pairings � A couple which was not on either of the shows, but we as fic writers/readers wanted so we wrote it. IE: Spike/Willow.
