In Search of Peace
Date of Submission:  August 6, 2002
In search of peace leads me into a stormy sea,
Where strong waves bash against jagged figures of despair.
Beyond life's miseries, bewilderment runs deep;
Society's murdering sharks roam freely
Devouring the innocence they seek.
I warn the wayward of life's seductive dangers;
But, I am overly thoughtful,
And the wayward still swims into death's way.

In search of peace leads me through mental desolation and fear
To a translucent coastline of rainbows of green:
Misty green of angiosperms,
Sea green of the different species of palms,
Nephrite green of mango,
Transparent green of pine,
And calm greens of dasheen and ferns.
Underfoot is a carpet of scattered life.

In search of peace --  Utopia is lost;
For I have misjudged my ability to escape.
Instead, I spend each day evading
Society's shameless imperfections
And smelling the sweetness of jealousy and revenge.
Staring into the heavens, I look for answers;
But the cliffs of devastation and deceit
Keep getting in my way.
