Glancing at the Stars Once

(Ihāderi Kānє)

Translated by Subrata Augustine Gomes

Glancing at the Stars once, and then Pain,

The youths penned a lot of verse, and were gone—

On the roads of the world the charming maids in ignorant awe

Half listened—this ever-deaf, ever-unmoved kind—

These figurines of imitation gold—

And yet, into their very ears

The youths poured in all their riches and were gone

Glancing at the Stars once, and then Pain.
