Evening (Rupôshi Bānglā
60: Shôndhā Hôy—Cari Dikє Mridu
Nirôbotā) Translated by Marian Maddern Evening—peaceful
silence all around; a starling quietly
carries a straw away, a bullock-cart drifts
slowly down the path, the yard is filled with
mounds of golden hay. From the forest, the
call of all earth’s turtle-doves; all earth’s beauty in
this grass is held; in our two hearts is
all earth’s love; this sky spreads, as
peace, encircling the world.
