Resonances of Dreams

(Shôpner Dhonirā)

Translated by Asif Chowdhury

Resonances of dreams inform: ‘lethargy is magnificent!’

Lighting a candle in a motionless wintry night

or quenching the flame while lying on the bed despite,

The lethargic has his eyes—aglow with the light

of some other afternoon blend.

That light remains still for immemorial time;

One day I too shall become lethargic

leaving everything behind;

Having forsaken the sewing of golden threads,

that night—I will lie down on my bed;

—candles put out, I will stay wide awake

leaning against Darkness

like the serpentine skies of bats in a maze.

O lethargy, when will you take me over?
