CONSTANTINE CAVAFIS

Desires..

Like beautiful never aged deceased bodies,
enclosed, in tears in a shining mausoleum,
with roses on the head and jasmines on the feet -
thus seem desires which have passed
without fullfilment, without one of them beeing worth
of a night of pleasure, or a bright morning after.
