How to Make Spiked Borders With a Pattern
this is a tutorial on how to make borders that look like this:
i will be re-creating this image^. if you would like to follow along exactly, here is a copy of the blend:
once you've done that, select the Polygonal Lasso Tool
using that, create spikes around the inside of the blend so you have a selection. like this:
hit Ctrl C. to Copy. you can also go to Edit>Copy to do this.now make a new document. you can do this by going to File>New or by hitting Ctrl N.
when the image box comes up the settings will be acording to the copied blend, and the image will not be big enough for what we are doing.
change the settings to however big you'd like your border to be. if you're going along with the tutorial, i'd suggest making it 600x320.
once you have the new document, use the paint bucket tool:
and fill the image with whatever colour you want the background of the border to be. [i'll be using white]
now in your layers pallette, click on the icon that says "Add a Layer Style" when you hover over it. it is the first one to the left. once you click on it go to "Pattern Overlay"
once the window pops up, choose the pattern you would like to be the foreground on the border.
[i'm using a diagonal line pattern, which can be found here
now go to Edit>Stroke and set the width to 2 or 3 pixels. [whatever you want it at] and set the colour.
i am using black, at three pixels.
now hit Ctrl V. or Edit>Paste and the blend should come up. [if it dosent, go back and copy it again.]
if you want a border around the spiked part of the blend [like in the example], go back to the layers pallete and click on the first icon to the left. ["Add Layer Style"] and select stroke. change the colour and size to whatever you desire. i'm using black, at three pixels. you should end up with something like this:
