PESSIMISM

You must be confused
My pessimistic views
The way I view this world
The way I see everyone
Because everyone judges me
We all form opinions on the people we meet
But I
I am that person on the sidelines
Noticing things that give some sign
Of the lack of justices that should be mine
Of course they are never too hard to find
I can look through my window
And see a brotha get harassed by the police
Or see a father getting shot out my window in the street
Maybe see little black boys learning to drug deal
I aint that pessimistic
Im just sayin whats real
I hear Bill Cosby sayin we as a people dont do enough
He could be wrong
More likely right
But whats tough is
Hearin that after weve been beaten
Killed martyred oppressed, mistreated,
We actually have fit the standard of ignorance
Attracted these situations of pure ghetto poorness
Payed in full this type of barbaric insurance

Developed an excuse to act like fools?
Is this the way we are?
As a people?
Kind of hard to take that in
A former comedian  is causing us to be defensive
Maybe hes being pessimistic
Or maybe hes telling it like it is
Will we be the falling race who regrets
Everything weve had to do? And for what?
Weve been the ones stepped on
Racially profiled on
Ignored and looked dirty upon
till all our hopes and dreams were gone
Yet we stay in this present
And try to remove
The pain we have gone through
By buying clothes and wearing the most jewelry
And competing with our appearance and style
Cause we feel we still got something to prove
Its more than being self-conscious
its the insecurities in you
To follow what Jay Z and P. Diddy might do
all of us need a dream in ourselves to aspire to
and in me
This paper, pen and God is the only thing that I got
I am the scribe, and HE is my enlightened despot
And I color my pages
Cause my color on paper gives a written speech
Of questions about things that make me less free
About things derived by a number of centuries
from the time they tied my ancestors to a tree
from the reality that they wont let none of us be
excuse me for being pessimistic
I just say what I see.
And feel and hear
And read between the lines of those not so accurate text books
Giving info on our history yet still being dismissive
Keeping out the missing pieces as if theyre infective
We are the missing pieces
And if we ALL came together
We could accomplish
Anything except the need to be famous
Or be rich and powerful
As if it erases the issues against us
Until then there will always be the pessimistic
And I will always write
What I observe
So do not refuse the pessimistic views
Try instead to think of how they affect you.
