When Writing A Poem

For Gilbert

What do you propose?

A horse wearing
Eyeglasses on his cold nose,
Or a cylinder car blaring
Through a hot melting hose,

Or maybe a tranquil turtle hiding
Inside a sweet sun,
Or pale bacon rain-drops riding
On a magnificent mare finding fun,

Or perhaps, a girl named LaVerne
Adverse to green gum,

Or even a complex equation on its return
Equaling a simple sum?

All I can say is that gummy sun blankets know’em
All when writing a poem.
