Lost
Love....
An old
woman sits all alone
clutching
memories of yesteryear
Sadness
engulfed her heavy heart
and
her eyes filled with tears.
Looking
back some 50 years
to another
life and time
When
love was their's in which they shared
in heart,
soul and mind.
Together
they were married
in the
summer of '38
Sharing
a blissful happiness
of a
new life intimate.
She was
just nineteen and innocent
he was
twenty-one
And
though unrest surrounded them
their
lives had just begun.
And then
unrest had turned to war
with
man fighting each other
Their
love would keep them going -
they
would always be together.
But tragedy
had rocked their world
when
late into the night
They
were taken to a place so bleak,
so cold
and out of sight.
There
they were just numbers
tattooed
in their skin
This
was no way for their life
or marriage
to begin.
But she
knew they had to be strong
of that
she was always sure
Though
no one could predict
the
torture they'd endure.
Dreary
days, so cold and bleak
battling
sickness and disease
Would
lead those to the gas chamber
crying
desperate pleas.
Then
on an early misty morn
with
a cry in her heart
She
watched as her husband was taken away
and
her life was torn apart.
That
moment etched in her memory
she
never saw him again
Her
heart ached for many years
she
never stopped loving him.
Today
marks the anniversary
that
he was taken away
She
came to say a prayer for his memory
on this
cold winters day.
Only
an elderly man was there
as she
sat quietly in the pew
Crying
her silent tears of grief
and
the pain of loss she knew.
As she
lifted her head she saw
the
old man looking at her
A sense
of familiarity
as his
gaze locked with her's.
Her hand
went slowly to her heart
as not
a word was spoken
His
gaze then moved to her left hand
the
reverie unbroken.
Tears
filled her eyes once more
as a
smile slowly dawned his face
Coming
towards her he held out his arms
and
locked her in an embrace.
It took
him fifty years to find her
and
now they were together ~
She
always said they'd have their love
and
now at last they have each other....

This
poem was inspired by a story I had heard about a couple who were separated
during the holocaust of WWII, and they never saw each other again....but
some 50 years or so later they found one another.
The
holocaust was a terrible time and so many lost their lives in its duration.
Many still live with the nightmare.
This
poem is dedicated to all those who were affected by the holocaust, and
lost family and friends....
Remember
Holocaust Remembrance Day on 19th April
